Police will investigate more opposition figures under the
Sedition Act for criticising the Federal Court's decision on Tuesday to uphold
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's sodomy conviction and jail sentence, The Sun
reported.
Those to be hauled up in the sedition dragnet are Fariz Musa, the head of PKR's Jingga 13 movement, Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) secretary-general S. Arutchelvan and PKR deputy Youth chief Dr Afif Bahardin, the newspaper quoted Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar(photo) as saying.
Fariz and Afif had allegedly urged Anwar's supporters to launch street demonstrations against the verdict, while Arutchelvan had apparently called the court's verdict politically motivated.
The Sun interviewed Khalid following the Federal Court's verdict, and the police chief had said that action would be taken against those who breached public order.
"I issued the warning, now it is time to enforce the law against those who breach and attempt to breach public order. They will be investigated for instigating the people to take to the streets," Khalid told the Sun.
Khalid's announcement follows the arrest of satire cartoonist Zulkiflee Anwar Ulhaque, also known as Zunar, who was detained on Tuesday night for tweeting a comment critical of the judiciary over the Anwar verdict.
Zunar is currently under remand for investigations under the Sedition Act.
On his Twitter account, Khalid, who uses the handle @KBAB51 also announced sedition probes into PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli and DAP's Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming for their tweets against the government and judiciary over Anwar's case.
