KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - City police will not allow the Bersih 4.0 rally to go on. City police chief Comm Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa (pic) said the organisers have not even gotten back to police to give notice on the proposed rally.
“Now that DBKL has not allowed them to gather at Padang
Merbok or Dataran Medeka, and as no other venue has been suggested, we cannot
allow the rally to go on.
“We will call the organisers to the Dang Wangi police
headquarters to advise them not to carry on with the rally,” he said when
contacted on Wednesday.
The organisers, Bersih 2.0, had proposed to hold the rally
on Aug 29 and 30 at Padang Merbok or Dataran Medeka.
Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah told reporters
recently that they had been informed earlier that the dates fixed for the rallies
were free of events at the intended venues.
Now, she said they were informed that there would also be a
concert at the Sogo shopping mall, one of the meeting points for the rally
participants, on Aug 29.
Maria said the organisers were also offered to move the
rally to Stadium Merdeka, Stadium Titiwangsa and the National Stadium in Bukit
Jalil.
“We will go ahead despite DBKL’s suggestions and the
participants will gather within the vicinity of Dataran Merdeka,” she said.
