KOTA KINABALU, Nov 19 (Bernama) -- Four hundred or 40 percent of Sekolah Menengah Kerajaan (SMK) Bum-Bum students in Semporna who did not have Mykads were not able to sit for their Sijil Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exams, the Dewan was told todayThe affected students are children of locals who are poor and illiterate and they needed attention and assistance, Datuk Harman Mohammad (BN-Sulabayan) told the Dewan while debating Budget 2009 today.
"We should not deny them their rights to education because we do not want to see such children lag behind without getting proper education. I hope the government can immediately act to rectify the situation by corresponding with the respective departments," he said.
Harman said one of the main reasons identified for their predicament was a compulsory requirement for parents to attach their marriage certificate for application of Mykads, introduced by the National Registration Department (NRD).
He said the requirement had resulted in problems for parents in rural and remote areas who had married a long time ago without marriage certificates.
Harman urged the Federal government through the NRD to find an amicable solution to the issue.
"I hope the issue can be solved quickly on compassionate grounds so that rural children can receive formal education at a higher level," he said

Soalnya disini...siapa punya salah,the parent or NRD?? Tapi berat kepada kesalahan ibubapa murid-murid tersebut kerana mengabaikan keperluan mendokumenkan anak-anak mereka. Takkanlah tahu siok-siok saja, tanggungjawab ibubapa bukan sekadar mencari makan untuk anak2 saja..banyak lagi ohhh.
Dari pihak NRD pula...gunalah kepala otak tu sikit,kalau dokumen tak cukup..pergilah turun buat pemantauan..itulah sebabnya, pegawai2 tu seboleh-bolehnya orang local sesuatu tempat itu untuk memudahkan mereka mengenalpasti kesahihan dokumen2 yang digunakan untuk pendaftaran. Yang mereka hantar orang2 luar jadi pegawai NRD di Sabah ni kenapa?? Bongok betul....
