HURRICANE JOVA KILLS 29, DISPLACED THOUSANDS IN CENTRAL AMERICA

NEW MEXICO, Mexico - 24 people died and 60,000 were displaced by the storms in Central America, AFP reported, citing local authorities and emergency services as saying on Thursday.
Five were killed in Mexico, which saw at least 4,000 people leaving their homes in fear of Hurricane Jova's torrential rains.
  • 15 of the fatalities were caused In Guatemala, the hardest-hit area, where more than 52,000 were also forced from their homes. Rains also carried away bridges and destroyed other infrastructure.
  • Jova roared ashore as a strong category-two hurricane in Mexico on Tuesday before subsiding to a tropical storm.
  • The remnants of the hurricane were breaking up over the country's northwest state of Nayarit, Mexican forecasters said.
