DRIVER PACKS 116 KIDS ON BUS DESIGNED FOR 62 PASSANGERS

JOHANSBURG - South African police arrested a bus driver on Wednesday for transporting 116 school children in a vehicle designed for 62 passengers, a spokeswoman said.
"Traffic authorities saw the vehicle was overloaded and pulled him off the road. He was transferring passengers from school," Captain Bernadine Steyn said.
The 53-year-old man was charged with overloading and was due to appear in court later this month.
South Africa has a bad road safety record, with accidents often attributed to poor vehicle maintenance, overloading, dangerous driving and hazardous road conditions.
More than 1,000 people died on the country's roads during the holiday season last month.
