1,750 MALAYSIAN LOSE RM68.3 MILLION TO ONLINE LOVE SCAMS

KUALA LUMPUR - As many as 1,750 Malaysians have fallen prey to Internet love scams since January last year, and they have been cheated of RM68.3 million, reported Harian Metro.
Most of the victims were women, said Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Mortadza Nazarene.
"(Last year,) 750 of the victims were women while 345 of them were men," he told reporters in Bukit Aman.
Mr Mortadza advised women, especially single mothers and lonely aged females, not to be fooled by new friends on social media.
He also asked them not to give cash or items to those whom they have never met.
He added that many of those found cheating victims had a similar modus operandi: claiming that they were businessmen from Britain or the United States.
Mr Mortadza also urged locals not to hand their bank account details to others, for fear of them becoming bank-account mules.
