KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Controversial bomoh Ibrahim Mat Zin(photo), who performed a
bizarre ritual at KL International Airport in an effort to find the
missing Malaysia Airlines aircraft, was a subject of discussion among
Members of Parliament.
Pokok Sena MP Datuk Mahfuz Omar of PAS claimed that Ibrahim
personally knew Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (photo), but the Home Minister
denied knowing the bomoh.
"I don't know him, but he may know me like how I know you," Dr Ahmad
Zahid said, adding that it was usual for some people to claim they knew
political personalities.
Lenggong MP Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah of Barisan Nasional hit out
at Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (PKR-Permatang Pauh) for
allegedly stating that Umno was involved in the bomoh stunt.
Mohamed Hanipa Maidin (PAS-Sepang) said Anwar was only criticising how the crisis was being handled by Malaysian authorities.
"Secondly, if we don't want the country to be humiliated, why was the bomoh allowed to paddle at the airport?" he added.
It was reported that Ibrahim and his assistants had brought several
items, including a "magic carpet" which served as a boat, for the ritual
at KLIA.
BN's Kinabatangan MP Datuk Bung Moktar Radin urged the
authorities to take action against the bomoh, who he said had
embarrassed the country.
"If they are truly sincere, they would have done this quietly, be it
in a room or a hotel. Instead, this ritual was done in front of all,
including the world media," he added.
Several MPs from both sides also said they were embarrassed over the bomoh's antics at KLIA.
