In a personal letter addressed to the head of the UN Security Council,
Hardeep Singh Puri,
Fernández de Kirchner (right photo) urges him to “urgently call for the
Council to convene in order to put an end to this round of violence that
strengthens those who wish to impede the creation of a Palestine state that can
peacefully coexist with Israel, as the president of the Palestine Nationals
Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, promised he would do.”

She adds that “we will always work in order to avoid armed conflicts and
support peaceful solutions, as well as the defence of the human life over
geopolitical and economic interests. This situation, however, cannot wait.”

The draft press statement failed to address the root cause of the current
escalation – the continuing barrage of rocket attacks from Gaza against Israel,
the spokeswoman for the U.S. Mission to the U.N., Erin Pelton, said in a
statement.
