LONDON, Ont. Canada - About 50 police officers in riot gear were called to a blocked street near Fanshawe College in London, Ont., when St. Patrick's Day celebrations turned violent early Sunday.A mob made up of young people, many believed to be students, pelted officers with bottles and other objects and set fire to a TV news truck that had been tipped over, witnesses on Fleming Drive said.
There are reports that at least one other vehicle in the area was torched.
- A firefighter on the scene told the London Free Press newspaper that some in the crowd were treated for burns, but it’s not known how serious the injuries are. A few young men were led away in handcuffs, the paper said.
