INDIAN STUDENT LEADER ACCUSED OF MURDER FOUND DEAD

BHOPAL, India - A student leader accused of severely beating a college professor, leading to his death, in 2006 was found dead in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior city, police said yesterday.
Police said Akhil Bhartiya Vidyathi Parisad (ABVP) member Vimal Tomar's death seemed to be suicide but they could only confirm it after the post-mortem examination.
  • "He was found dead at his uncle's house. Prima facie, it seems a suicide, however no suicide note has recovered and post-mortem is yet to be done so nothing concrete could be said about the death and about the reasons behind it," Gwalior Deputy Superintendent of Police Niraj Pandey told IANS.
  • Tomar, who was state secretary of a student wing, had allegedly along with a dozen others, brutally beaten up Professor H.S. Sabharwal after a spat over elections to the college's student union.
