TUJUH PELAJAR MALAYSIA DI AUSTRALIA LESAP
Friday, October 31, 2008Norzarifah, a missing student
Seven Malaysians who are studying at several Australian universities have done a vanishing act. Three of the students are with Curtin University of Technology, Perth, while the others are at other institutions, also in Perth.
All of them are sponsored by a government-linked company.Umno Youth social welfare secretariat chairman Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim found this out after their parents voiced their fears. "The students may have been demoralised into giving up their studies.
"In any case, we have contacted Wisma Putra, Interpol and the Malaysian students club in Australia for assistance."
He added that the secretariat was prepared to fly the parents to Australia to find and coax them back to the university and not jeopardise their future. One of the missing students is Norzarifah Kamarauzaman, 21, from Curtin, who had scored 9As in her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination.
She went to Australia last year but has failed to contact her family since Oct 6 this year. Her parents, Kamarauzaman Nasir, 50, and Noraini Daud, 48, were present at a press conference at the secretariat's office yesterday.Noraini, a library assistant at Universiti Putra Malaysia, said Norzarifah had sent a short text message to her other daughter, Norzawani, on Sept 17, saying she had been hospitalised after consuming 50 tablets to relieve stress."Norzarifah's email account had also been terminated.
We lodged a report at the Kajang police station on Sept 23."We fear that Norzarifah may have deviated from Islam after befriending two Australian men when she was discharged from the hospital," said Noraini."Norzarifah had worked part-time as a cleaner with a company and quit studying last August after being promoted as a manager with an attractive income."
REMINISCENCE OF MALAYSIAN VISION 2020
Friday, October 31, 2008The vision calls for a self-sufficient industrial, Malaysian-centric developed nation, complete with an economy, in 2020 that will be eightfold stronger than the economy of the early 1990s.
Challenge 1: To form a nation that stands as one.
Challenge 2: To produce a Malaysian community that has freedom, strength, and full of self confidence.
Challenge 3: To develop a mature democratic community.
Challenge 4: To form a community that has high morale, ethics and religious strength.
Challenge 5: To cultivate a community that is matured and tolerant.
Challenge 6: To form a progressive science community.
Challenge 7: To cultivate a community rich in values and loving culture.
Challenge 8: To ensure the formation of a community with a fair economy.
Challenge 9: To cultivate a prosperous community.
I wonder whether our vision are still in line with the obligation that once we agreed upon.

ISLAM ON THE EYES OF RICK THE AMERICAN
Monday, October 27, 2008Then, after graduating, I went back home to Malaysia, our relationship were cut off. However, we managed to communicate again this year through our college website . Surprisingly, he gave me his latest view on Islam . And this is what he had written to me;
Seeing as I can only say a few basic phrases in Arabic, I listened to the Arabic to English translation generously provided in the back. Afterwards, I got to sit down in the center of the mosque and talk with the Muslim community about how they felt about some of the things happening in the world today.
Just as I have always believed, they reaffirmed to me that Islam is a religion of peace and that true Muslims reject religious violence, whether it be against westerners or their own people.
I brought up the subject of Iraq and the religious violence that is happening over there, and they explained that there really is no difference between Sunni and Shia.
My hosts were Sunni, but they said that Shia families come in to pray on a regular basis, something the you're not going to hear about in the media too often.
I also talked about terrorism and their thoughts on groups like Al-Qaeda, Hamas, and Hezbollah. There answer was simple: It's political, meaning that many of these groups have a political ideology that has developed over the years.
It’s important to point out that there is nothing in the Koran that encourages religious violence, hatred, or attacking innocent people. My hosts also voiced their concerns about how many ignorant people, such as some conservative commentators, have stated that Islam is not a religion of peace and calls for the use of violence to bring about conversions.
Muslims are indeed peaceful people and want what we all want: peace and prosperity throughout the world. I shared with them my plans for becoming a writer and how I want to help make the world a better place, and they told me that they fully support my plans and believe it is a noble cause.
They encouraged me to write an op-ed about my experience and I plan to do just that. Islam is truly a beautiful and peaceful religion and I encourage anyone who wants to learn more about it to contact the local Muslim community. It is by understanding each other we can all work together to help make the world a better place. “
THERMAL IMPRISONING
Monday, October 27, 2008Just for a while, let share something else, something more serious than politics. Let talks about saving our planet earth and save our life. Our planet is our god's grant ..so let's keep it safe and pure by peace and love.
GLOBAL WARMING
we are now in a period that it is very necessary to keep away anything that will damage our precious earth. We see that the caloric degree of the earth will heighten 4 degree in five years. And the scientists are two teams in this object :
1)the first says that it's a natural thing because the earth passes in cold and hot periods ,and the hot gases are one of reasons of the Thermal Imprisoning or Global Warming . the reason of heightening the ratio of these gases is the weather pollution and the latter caused by natural causes such as volcanoes ,the forests' fires , the organic polluters and sure the human's polluters :petrol and the forests diminishing .
2)the other team says that the cause of the Thermal Imprisoning is the sun's winds and the important cause of increasing these winds is CO2.
THE COURSE AND IMPACT OF CLOBAL WARMING
DUNIA KENA SEPAKAT TANGANI PERUBAHAN IKLIM
a. menanam kesedaran di kalangan masyarakat tentang pentingnya alam sekitar kepada kehidupan;
b. menyediakan kemudahan dan mekanisme yang dapat membantu orang ramai memelihara kebersihan dan keindahan alam seperti menyediakan tong sampah dan sebagainya;
c. mendedahkan masyarakat tentang cara menjaga alam sekitar;
d. mengadakan aktiviti gotong-royong membersihkan kampung, taman perumahan, dan sebagainya;
POVERTY, NOT ISLAM CAUSES TERRORISM
Tuesday, October 21, 2008He explained that he made up his mind on Islam based on seeing a picture of a Muslim mother with her head on the gravestone of her son who was killed in Iraq "fighting for this country." And that he thinks it’s shameful to imply that "a little 7-year old Muslim boy" could not aspire to become President one day.
Jonah Goldberg at National Review agrees with Powell that there's nothing wrong with a Muslim running for President, but thinks that his suggesting that the responsibility for these stories lies with McCain is "a low and dishonest blow."
Colin Powell Endorses Obama
The former secretary of state and Joint Chiefs chairman revealed on Sunday whom he is voting for and why. Powell explained that it was not easy to disappoint his friend, John McCain, but that Barack Obama is the “transformational figure” America needs at this moment.
The general became almost tearful at one moment as he indicted the “smear” that Obama is a Muslim, which he described as a smear against all Muslims.
He added, "I’m also troubled by, not what Senator McCain says, but what members of the party say. And it is permitted to be said such things as, “Well, you know that Mr. Obama is a Muslim.”
ANWAR IBRAHIM - JEJAKA MISTRI NUSANTARA
Knowledgeable, charming, out spoken and extremely very religious.
'It could be coming from a magic hand at work'.
Dalam soal ini, saya mempunyai pendirian dan pandangan sendiri ‘ what is best for my country, the land beneath the wind’.
‘To me, the interest of the people of sabah and the security of the nation must come first’. The Shadow Government of DSAI’.
GOVERNMENT TO REVIEW SOME PROJECTS : PM
Thursday, October 16, 2008As for projects on which work have yet to start, it might even consider postponing the projects. But it will all be within reason and involve particularly projects that are large and require high cost, the Prime Minister said.
Projects that are viable would continue. All the projects in the country involve the economic corridors, he said.
"Where we can implement, we will. Where we need to pull-back a bit, we will pull-back. We will postpone."
He also said that the country had continued to receive investments from specific areas due to its vision for targeted investment and from areas with sufficient or excess funds for investment.
Malaysia offers high incentives for investment. For investors keen on the targeted investment, the country can either receive the investment flow or export its products to the involved countries.
Abdullah also reiterated that Malaysia's economy would be able to withstand pressures from the downtrend in the global economy.
"Our economy has resilience. Our ringgit is stable and our reserves strong, and up to this point, our exports can be maintained and we also have a favourable trade balance," he said.
"The important thing is the Government has not forgotten to come up with the measures to be taken so that whatever the effects that befall us, we hope it will not be continuous."
He added that while Malaysia in the past depended on the US market, it has now diversified into other areas such as Asean and China. This, will hopefully help shield the country, he said.
Abdullah said he also hoped that Malaysians would be ready to invest and spend as domestic consumption would drive the country's economy.
However, there is a need to convince the people of the measures that the Government has taken besides being just told that the country's economy has staying power due to strong fundamentals.
I guess some thinkers or economists would readily like to rebuff the statements made by our PM. Possibly with some smart ideas . However as it is , the result would be the same. It could be a blessing in disguise to some, who knows.
On the same token, I would like to take the opportunity to propose to government to seriously consider reviewing the status of Sabah Development Corridors. As it is, the present SDC initiated by our CM, Datuk Seri Musa Aman (DSMA), does not seems to meet the vision dreamed by the people of Sabah. The proposed Development areas identified by DSMA earlier, would only benefited to some.
In real sense, the SDC mentioned aloud by DSMA sometimes ago, is only a rhetoric. Sadly to some, reflecting a political planning's failure. A make believed story tale , orchestrated by him and geng to cloud the eyes of this planet, that Sabah is now better off under his governance. Actually, to me, it is not.
In fact, it is like a one way journey through a tunnel along a long and winding roads.
BESIDE ICs, PTI,CAN WE SOLVE POVERTY IN SABAH ?
Monday, October 13, 2008Taken from somewhere in Sulaman Bay, Tuaran
THE CASE OF MYCARD AND ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS (PTI) IN SABAH (English Version)
Dompok who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said that the government has decided on a course of action that could flush out all foreign nationals without valid documents if it was implemented sincerely.
He said that foreigners who could stay on in Sabah should only be those allowed to work after obtaining work passes issued by the Immigration Department. Dompok also voiced concern about another category of foreigners who should not be in Sabah but somehow managed to secure valid documents.
“They are the ones who by the stroke of the pen, accorded citizenship and may even join the ranks of natives of this country. This is a more serious problem,” he said.
On the same token Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Joseph Pairin Kitingan hoped there will be no more cases of a citizen being demoted to a Permanent Resident now that a Sabahan is heading the State National Registration Department (NRD).
Welcoming the appointment of Abdul Jaffaer Henry as the new State NRD Director, he said the department should now be able to perform its roles and responsibilities properly and according to public expectations.
With the exception of UMNO, most of the parties had contributed more or less their grievances pertaining to the issues of MyKad and PTI.
Since the formation of PKR in Sabah sometimes ago, Datuk Dr Jeffry Kitingan had been saying aloud about the issue of PTI and the needs to have more Sabahan senior officers in the federal departments. But so far no body seem to bother.
However, beside MyKad and PTI the problem of poverty and unemployments are also equally important to the people of Sabah.
THE EPIC OF POVERTY IN SABAH
Briefly let share my favorite topic, “The Epic Of Poverty “ as seen by a Medical Doctor from Ranau.
"During my 2 years in Ranau, I've heard and seen it all, patients with cerebral malaria, a condition unheard of in Peninsular Malaysia, coming in after 48 hours to the hospital from places like Kaingaran and Karagasan, with relatives having to push the 'pirate taxi' through the mud, spending RM50 on fare during the monsoon season, the equivalent of 2 months income, this too when petrol was only around RM1.20 a liter in Ranau.
Patients having to delay treatment for life threatening conditions because a bridge washed away along the trail (I won't even call it a road) to Tambunan. Emergency surgery such as caesarian sections, appendectomies and even ectopic pregnancies had to be performed in our little district hospitals by Medical Officers with little more than 4 months housemanship experience.
Medical emergencies such as myocardial infarctions, which in Peninsular Malaysia would be managed in a Coronary Care Unit setting, had to be managed in the district hospital level. I'm grateful however, that my staff in that hospital were the best I've ever had the pleasure of working with and were dedicated enough to want to make a difference in their patients' lives.
But poor transportation does not only affect the access to healthcare. Having no roads to be able to transport their agricultural produce for sale means that these people are stuck in a never ending cycle of poverty.
At most, some of them get RM20 to RM50 by selling their produce to middlemen to be sold at the monthly tamu or market at prices that are perhaps only 10 percent of the value of the goods. These innocent people are also preyed upon by traveling cloth merchants, mostly foreigners, who offer them 'easy payment schemes' to buy cloth for clothes, and when they cannot pay for the cloth and the interest accumulates, they end up having to marry their daughters to these men, who often have wives back home in Pakistan.
One of the cases I could never forget was of the family who came to Ranau Hospital just as I was leaving, a family who had failed crops, were hungry and unable to get food. The father collected some toad eggs and fed them to the whole family in a desperate attempt to stave off hunger. When they arrived at our little emergency room, one of the children were dead and two passed away within 10 minutes of arrival in our casualty unit due to poisoning.
Major towns in Sabah have electricity courtesy of the Sabah Electricity Board, but smaller villages have either diesel generators or rely on candles or lamps when night falls.
How can children study in these conditions? Like many doctors in the districts, I had to learn Dusun to communicate better with these patients who could speak little else.
By all means, declare Sept 16th a public holiday, but remember it in its real context, where we made a promise to our brethren in Sabah and Sarawak to treat them as equals in Malaysia, and give them the development they've been long denied.”
Bak kata DSAI " Enough Is Enough."
UMNO, SABAH STYLE
NRD, AS SEEN BY BERNARD AND JEFFRY
Thursday, October 09, 2008No doubt , both Tan Sri Bernard and Datuk Dr Jeffry came from the same ethnic group, the KDM. Yet, they adapt different kind of political philosophy. However, in the case of problematic NRD, both of them share the same concern. Briefly, let see what they have to say about it.
NRD According to Tan Sri Bernard Dompok
According to (UPKO) President Tan Sri Bernard Dompok, there is a need to revamp the National Registration Department (NRD) administrative system to better handle cases of locals unable to attain citizenship in Sabah.
"However, if it is only an administrative problem, then there is no need for me to raise it to the Federal Cabinet" , he said.
He was commenting on two new cases of locals who had their applications for citizenship meeting dead ends despite trying for more than three decades (see separate story) as well as Yong Lee Hua who lost her citizenship after getting a replacement for her stolen IC.
"There's something wrong in the system. These are some of many cases of people who are still struggling to get their citizenship and the saddest part is that there are other people who walked into the country easily obtaining their citizenship through the backdoor.
In fact, we have been calling for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (among others, to solve such problems)," he said, adding that some of the perennial issues were about to be uncovered when he chaired the Parliamentary Select Committee on Integrity. " he concluded.
NRD According to Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan
On the other hands, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice president Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan felt that such revamp alone as mentioned earlier by Tan Sri Bernard Dompok, will not solve the problems of issuing identity cards (ICs) to non-citizens while denying locals of their citizenship rights.
He said, “No amount of administrative revamp can solve the IC and citizenship problems in Sabah without a strong political will or a change of government.”
he reckoned, the need for a whole new attitude by the federal government and the federal civil servants towards Sabah that was to respect Sabah’s rights and roles in the federation.
He also said the NRD staff had to understand what these rights were and to assist Sabahans to obtain their citizenship rights, including ICs without hassles and to protect Sabahans’ rights and sovereignty by rejecting any application by non-Malaysians for IC.
He believed that any manipulation or political abuse of citizenship rights and issuance of ICs to non-citizens should be exposed so that appropriate action could be taken against the perpetrators.
According to him, ‘do not care’ and ‘neo-colonial’ attitudes of the federal government over the last 45 years towards Sabah as well as their continuous denials and pretence that Project IC did not exist and given that the same Umno-controlled BN government was in power, he said only with a strong political will or a change of government could resolve these problems once and for all.
Author Comments and Conclusion
If we are Patriotic Sabahan as what we always claimed, then we should give our due appreciation to both leaders for contributing their opinions on how to handle the complex IC's problems faced by Malaysian citizen, living in Sabah. Rather than complaining, who is right and who is wrong, for once, let be serious. Malaysian Identity Card(IC) is our legacy. It is our recognition's ultimatum in the face of this trouble Earth.
Pertaining to this isu, it is easy to say than done and it involves a lot of bureaucratic works . Among others;
2) Smart strategy and tactic in getting informations.
3) Good integral relationship with neighbouring countries and etc
4) Aggressive participation of relevant NGOs’
5) Enough funding
So far, our mind set had been prejudicially focusing so much on the faulty made by those from Philippine and Indonesia. Some how and as a result of further investigation, new informations had surfaced. Showing that there could be a possibility of breach in citizen ownership by those coming from Mainland China, Taiwan or from our own neighbuors; Sarawak and Semenanjung.
MALAYSIAN’S YOUTHS, THE VOTERS OF TOMORROW
Tuesday, October 07, 2008The leaders, according to them, had forgotten feeling that the youths are bounded with a complex problematic in years to come. Their planning priority for youths are almost none, they said. Those youths study abroad had to make a decision either to stay there or migrate to some other countries for jobs. Unless there is a drastic change in the leaderships, otherwise the country could face chaotic in future, they concluded.
If not, we could have used the cash for schools anyways. I'm sick of hearing about how schools have budget issues. I digress again. Also it could be used to set up an independent anti-corruption agency. That would help A LOT but no, they'd rather spend it all on sending a guy to space. Yadda-yadda. It's like putting glitter on a pile of shit; it looks sparkly but it's still shit. That RM92 million could have been used for a whole lot of other things. I mean, sure, you got to send a guy to the ISS, but so what? If you have enough cash, you can go past Pluto (which is NOT a planet...) and back again.
I sent a card to RPK, and I hope he gets it. FREE RPK!
Lots a love and wishing all you mo' fo's a big SELAMAT HARI RAYA! And enjoy the ketupat; eat on my behalf while I'm stuck here in NZ writing my essay...which is due very soon. Have fun. :D
The truth is that Umno has ruled supreme for the last 50 years. It always got its way because the dominant ethnic majority of the country always supported its policies. The state of the nation is corrupt, racist, discriminatory, abusive, unjust, inefficient, and backwards. If Malaysia stinks then it is because Umno stinks. If the "morals of the country" stinks, then it is because the morals of Umno politicians stinks. I won’t even discuss the morality of explosives and murder of foreign nationals as most people seem to be able to tell the difference between right and wrong in this instance. Instead, I shall talk about Umno corruption and Umno racism as the former will occasion the disastrous downfall of this nation, and the latter will be the downfall of the malays. Umno teaches that it is just to discriminate against all non-malays and non-Muslims: jobs, education, schools, colleges, universities, business opportunities, government contracts, taxes, and even finding a cemetery to bury the dead. Umno teaches that it is right to discriminate on the basis of a person race, culture, language or religious belief. In front of non-malays, it speaks of tolerance and unity in diversity, and in front of malays it speaks of race, religious, cultural and language supremacy, and the glorification of power and ethnic subjugation. Bung Mokhtar leadership role as characterised by a yobbish machismo, obscene gestures, medieval attitudes towards women and minorities, and strutting bigotry within Umno is not only not an accident of chance, but an exemplary example of Umno appeal to the baser instincts and darker fantasies of its ethnic constituency. To the vernacular schools it gives a pittance for support, and to malay language schools, there is no need to be diplomatic and call them "national language" schools, it gives 100% support. As for English-medium schools, the type that made Malaysian education the best in South East Asia, and our school leavers the most sought after anywhere in the civilised world, they were made extinct, courtesy of Umno language and cultural supremacist fantasies. So we are left with unemployable graduates with deplorable job skills and prospects. Umno policies caused a brain drain to Australia, New Zealand, UK, Canada, and the US. Umno language supremacist policies caused the extinction of the best high quality education that Malaysia and the malays would ever know. Umno perversion of the very idea of meritocracy in favour of racist discrimination has ensured the lack of meritocractic competition for all Malaysians. Sooner or later, the malays will realise that denying meritocracy to non-malays guarantees that there can be no meritocracy for malays even within their own community. The fact that there is no notable inferiority complex nor entitlement complex or NEP dependence amongst the non-malays is no accident. If the non-malays were the dominant ethnic majority, and they had an Umno-like racist party to lead them with promises of ethnic supremacy, racial discrimination and ethnic privileges, then I believe they would have lost their self-confidence, self-respect and self-belief too. Farish Noor once said "Umno ternak melayu untuk disembelih".I agree, and if the dominant ethnic majority fails to see past Umno seductive promises of ethnic supremacy and false gods of ethnic aggrandisement, then we are all finished.

The Chinese came to Malaya more than 1000 years ago, while the Indians came here almost 1030 years ago. Kota Gelanggi and Lembah Bujang are proof of these early settlements.

For Royal Professor Ungku Aziz to say that there was no social contract between the founding fathers of our nation, this has put a nail in the coffin on those ultra-malays who still see Ketuanan Melayu as a cornerstone for race relationships in this country. While other matured and well-developed nations have put to rest the 'master and slave' relationship among the various races, it baffles the mind of thinking people why should such policy still remain relevant in this 21st century here in Malaysia. We might call our British colonial masters 'Sir' or 'Tuan' in the early days but after half-a-century of independence, don't you think that such thinking is out of date? Mind you, the United States who imported Negros from Africa a few centuries ago to be the white man's slave might have a black man to be their next president if Obama wins the ticket to the White House in the coming US presidential elections. Malay rights have been ensconced in the federal constitution and cannot be taken away unless by a two-thirds majority in parliament subject to the malay rulers approval. No one doubts that in the early days, the bumis especially the malays, needed affirmative actions to take them out of their cycle of poverty to be on par with other races, especially the Chinese. But the NEP has outlived it purpose and it should be replaced with a new policy which will eradicate poverty regardless of creed and race. The playing field should be more even and let the best among the best compete among themselves in order for our nation to progress in the future. Why should rich malays with their 'right political connections' obtain a big slice of the economic cake while the poor people are denied such opportunities to get them out of their cycle of poverty? To be a respected race, the malays must discard the notion that the government will always have to provide them with opportunities in studies and business as if it was their birth right. The malays should be able to compete with the other races on an equal footing and work hard to improve their lot rather than expecting handouts from the government. Ungku Aziz, a towering malay whose intellectual thinking is way ahead of his time, has opened a Pandora Box's with his outright statement that there is no written 'social contract' among the various races prior to independence. Umno politicians will now cry foul about his daring statement as they will always use the Ketuanan Melayu bogey to win the hearts and minds of the malays to support their cause. . But the malays cannot be in a denial mode anymore. We must accept the fact that in the brave new world that we live in where people and capital move to places where no restrictions are imposed, the old way of doing business by having quota systems will drive capital away from our country and the people will suffer in the end if business opportunities pass our shores. The malays should look at their Singapore brethren who are no less the worse although unlike their Malaysian cousins, they does not have any NEP policy to get a leg up in society. There is no short cut for success unless you work hard for it.
