Norzarifah, a missing student
Seven Malaysians who are studying at several Australian universities have done a vanishing act. Three of the students are with Curtin University of Technology, Perth, while the others are at other institutions, also in Perth.
All of them are sponsored by a government-linked company.Umno Youth social welfare secretariat chairman Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim found this out after their parents voiced their fears. "The students may have been demoralised into giving up their studies.
"In any case, we have contacted Wisma Putra, Interpol and the Malaysian students club in Australia for assistance."
He added that the secretariat was prepared to fly the parents to Australia to find and coax them back to the university and not jeopardise their future.One of the missing students is Norzarifah Kamarauzaman, 21, from Curtin, who had scored 9As in her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination.
She went to Australia last year but has failed to contact her family since Oct 6 this year.Her parents, Kamarauzaman Nasir, 50, and Noraini Daud, 48, were present at a press conference at the secretariat's office yesterday.Noraini, a library assistant at Universiti Putra Malaysia, said Norzarifah had sent a short text message to her other daughter, Norzawani, on Sept 17, saying she had been hospitalised after consuming 50 tablets to relieve stress."Norzarifah's email account had also been terminated.
We lodged a report at the Kajang police station on Sept 23."We fear that Norzarifah may have deviated from Islam after befriending two Australian men when she was discharged from the hospital," said Noraini."Norzarifah had worked part-time as a cleaner with a company and quit studying last August after being promoted as a manager with an attractive income."

Tujuh pelajar Malaysia tajaan sebuah syarikat berkaitan kerajaan (GLC) di beberapa universiti di Australia dilaporkan 'lesap' tanpa diketahui ke mana mereka menghilangkan diri.
Tiga daripada pelajar terbabit termasuk Norzarifah Kamarauzaman, 21, menuntut di universiti sama - Curtin University of Technology, manakala empat lagi di universiti berasingan, semuanya di Perth.
Kehilangan pelajar itu didedahkan Pengerusi Sekretariat Pembelaan Masyarakat Pemuda Umno, Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim semalam selepas menerima aduan ibu bapa mereka serta sumber di Australia.
Norzarifah yang mendapat 9A dalam peperiksaan Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) dan mula menuntut di Australia tahun lalu, dilaporkan tidak menghubungi keluarganya sejak 6 Oktober lalu. Noraini, Pembantu Perpustakaan di Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) berkata, sebelum menghilangkan diri anaknya pernah mengirim SMS kepada kakaknya, Norzawani, 24, pada 17 September lalu, memaklumkan dia menelan 50 biji panadol kerana tertekan dan dimasukkan ke hospital. Berikutan itu, keluarganya membuat laporan di Balai Polis Kajang pada 23 September lalu.
Noraini berkata, beliau bimbang Norzarifah terpesong daripada ajaran Islam apabila mengetahui anak keduanya itu mengikuti dua lelaki warga Australia selepas keluar dari hospital.

As a result of present political turmoil and the possible financial freak, maybe we had forgotten feeling that once our nation had a vision, known as ‘Wawasan 2020’ or ‘Vision 2020’. A vision which was introduced by the former prime minister of Malaysia, Tun Mahathir Mohamad Mahathir during the tabling of the Sixth Malaysia Plan in 1991.
The vision calls for a self-sufficient industrial, Malaysian-centric developed nation, complete with an economy, in 2020 that will be eightfold stronger than the economy of the early 1990s.

According to Tun Mahathir, Malaysia must overcome the nine challenges in order to turn the Vision 2020 into reality. The nine challenges are;
Challenge 1: To form a nation that stands as one.
Challenge 2: To produce a Malaysian community that has freedom, strength, and full of self confidence.
Challenge 3: To develop a mature democratic community.
Challenge 4: To form a community that has high morale, ethics and religious strength.
Challenge 5: To cultivate a community that is matured and tolerant.
Challenge 6: To form a progressive science community.
Challenge 7: To cultivate a community rich in values and loving culture.
Challenge 8: To ensure the formation of a community with a fair economy.
Challenge 9: To cultivate a prosperous community.
I wonder whether our vision are still in line with the obligation that once we agreed upon.

MALAYSIA mencadangkan satu tabung baru dengan dana yang lebih besar diwujudkan Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu (PBB) bagi membantu negara membangun mengatasi masalah perubahan iklim dengan lebih berkesan.

PERUBAHAN IKLIM MENURUT DATUK SERI SYED HAMID ALBAR
Menteri Luar, Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar, yang mewakili Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi pada mesyuarat peringkat tinggi tidak formal mengenai perubahan iklim anjuran PBB, berkata negara maju mesti komited menawarkan pembiayaan dan teknologi kepada negara membangun bagi membentuk satu rejim iklim yang berkesan selepas Protokol Kyoto berakhir pada 2012.
Protokol Kyoto diasaskan pada Konvensyen Rangka Kerja PBB Mengenai Perubahan Iklim dan menetapkan sasaran dan jadual pengurangan pelepasan gas rumah hijau wajib dipatuhi oleh negara perindustrian. Amerika Syarikat tidak memeterai protokol ini.
Syed Hamid berkata, Malaysia sudah mengambil langkah terbaik untuk menangani masalah perubahan cuaca pada masa kini dan akan datang. menurut beliau ,"Mengikut rancangan pembangunan lima tahun, Malaysia sudah memperuntukkan sejumlah besar wang untuk melakukan langkah pencegahan bagi mengurangkan kesan kerosakan alam sekitar pada peringkat sumbernya, meningkatkan usaha pemuliharaan dan menguruskan sumber alam semula jadi secara mapan. Beliau berkata, perubahan iklim bukan saja menyebabkan cuaca melampau, tetapi mempunyai kesan negatif terhadap pertanian, kepelbagaian biologi, hutan, air bersih dan meningkatkan kes penyakit seperti malaria dan denggi. Katanya, ia turut menyebabkan kawasan rendah dilanda banjir seperti dialami Malaysia pada Disember 2005 dan 2006 serta Januari tahun ini yang mengakibatkan kerugian RM4 bilion. "

menurut Timbalan Perdana Menteri, fenomena itu adalah nyata dan mempunyai kesan meluas, manakala usaha menanganinya memerlukan tindakan sepadu serta sepakat sama ada dalam sesebuah negara mahupun global. “Oleh kerana bumi adalah satu-satunya tempat tinggal manusia, berdiam diri dengan hanya menjadi penonton tanpa mengendahkannya bukan satu pilihan. Kita dikurniakan alam sekitar dan iklim yang membolehkan generasi kita hidup dalam keadaan sihat, bermakna dan produktif. Oleh itu adalah menjadi tanggungjawab moral kita untuk menyerahkan dunia yang sihat dan sesuai bagi kehidupan kepada generasi akan datang,” kata beliau.

Oleh kerana isu ini melibatkan negeri kita, saya telah menemui beberapa orang Mahasiswa tempatan dan bertanya pendapat mereka tentang langkah-langkah yang patut di ambil untuk mengatasi masaalah tersebut. Antara lain, pendapat mereka ada lah saperti berikut;
1). Pencemaran dan kerosakan alam yang berlaku boleh diatasi dengan melakukan perkara berikut:
a. menanam kesedaran di kalangan masyarakat tentang pentingnya alam sekitar kepada kehidupan;
b. menyediakan kemudahan dan mekanisme yang dapat membantu orang ramai memelihara kebersihan dan keindahan alam seperti menyediakan tong sampah dan sebagainya;
c. mendedahkan masyarakat tentang cara menjaga alam sekitar;
d. mengadakan aktiviti gotong-royong membersihkan kampung, taman perumahan, dan sebagainya;
e. penguatkuasaan undang-undang seperti mengenakan hukuman yang berat terhadap mereka yang melakukan pencemaran.
2). Alam sekitar yang bersih serta ekosistem yang terpelihara daripada pencerobohan akan dapat memberikan keselesaan dalam kehidupan.
3). Sekiranya alam ini tidak dipelihara dengan baik, kehidupan kita akan diselubungi dengan bencana alam dan keindahan yang selama ini kita nikmati akan musnah.
4). Pengabaian kepada alam sekitar juga menyebabkan kita mudah diserang penyakit dan wabak yang berbahaya.

He explained that he made up his mind on Islam based on seeing a picture of a Muslim mother with her head on the gravestone of her son who was killed in Iraq "fighting for this country." And that he thinks it’s shameful to imply that "a little 7-year old Muslim boy" could not aspire to become President one day.
Jonah Goldberg at National Review agrees with Powell that there's nothing wrong with a Muslim running for President, but thinks that his suggesting that the responsibility for these stories lies with McCain is "a low and dishonest blow."

Colin Powell Endorses Obama
The former secretary of state and Joint Chiefs chairman revealed on Sunday whom he is voting for and why. Powell explained that it was not easy to disappoint his friend, John McCain, but that Barack Obama is the “transformational figure” America needs at this moment.
The general became almost tearful at one moment as he indicted the “smear” that Obama is a Muslim, which he described as a smear against all Muslims.
He added, "I’m also troubled by, not what Senator McCain says, but what members of the party say. And it is permitted to be said such things as, “Well, you know that Mr. Obama is a Muslim.”

Well, the correct answer is, he is not a Muslim, he’s a Christian. He’s always been a Christian. But the really right answer is, what if he is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answer’s no, that’s not America. Is there something wrong with some seven-year-old Muslim-American kid believing that he or she could be president? Yet, I have heard senior members of my own party drop the suggestion, “He’s a Muslim and he might be associated terrorists.” This is not the way we should be doing it in America. "

Cerita mengenai Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (DSAI), hingga kini maseh lagi menjadi topik yang hangat. Banyak yang negatif dan kadang kala ada juga positif. Saperti yang kita tahu, station TV luar negara saperti CNN, BBC ABC dan Aljazeera pun pernah membesar-besarkan berita mengenai isu yang melibatkan DSAI.

Berita mengenai hubungan rapat beliau dengan Abdul Rahman Wahid atau Gus Dur, mantan Bapak Presiden Indonesia juga tidak lepas di pertikaikan.
Hubungan beliau dengan negara barat terutama sekali negara Amerika telah di besar-besar kan di sana sini. Seakan-akan cerita ini telah menjadi satu batu ukiran atau tugu peringatan.

kalau di biarkan, mungkin ia nya hanya berkembang setakat menjadi sebuah buku sastera atau 'story tales'.

However, kalau cerita ini terus juga di perhangat-hangatkan, tidak heran kalau ia nya boleh bertukar menjadi energy saperti sebuah gunung berapi. Bila meletup, susah padah nya.

ANWAR YANG PERNAH SAYA KENALI
DSAI yang saya kenal , pada suatu ketika , semasa saya bersama YB. Tan Seri Muhyidin Yassin, Dato Ibrahim Ali dan Datuk Mohd Ali Rustam, sama-sama mewakili Malaysia dalam program pertukaran belia sedunia di Kanada, tidak jauh beza dengan DSAI yang kini.
Knowledgeable, charming, out spoken and extremely very religious. Saorang anak melayu yang layak di gelarkan ‘jejaka mistri nusantara’. Unik dan mempunyai minda bertaraf tujuh bintang atau world class.

DESTINY COMING FROM THE FRONTIER OF HEAVEN
Apa pun yang berlaku masa kini sehingga mengujudkan kebencian satengah rakyat Malaysia terhadap DSAI , tidak akan mengubahkan hormat saya pada DSAI.
Saperti Tun M, ‘ political career ‘ beliau penuh dengan cabaran yang membara. Mereka masing-masing terpaksa mengalami masa lalu yang penuh dengan liku-liku. Beza nya, Tun M telah pernah menjadi PM Malaysia. DSAI belum.
Saya rasa apa pun yang berlaku pada negara kita pada masa kini, ada lah tragedi sedih. Pasti nya ada hubungan kait dengan sejarah yang melibatkan persahabatan di antara Tun M dan DSAI. Atau ia nya satu kesilapan yang terjadi dalam percaturan politik. Bukan di rancang oleh sesiapa tetapi telah di tentukan oleh ‘Destiny coming from the frontier of Heaven’.

PERJUANGAN ANWAR MASEH BELUM SELESAI
Dalam persoalan siapa salah siapa, bagi saya amat susah untuk di putuskan. Kerana missi, visi dan perjuangan DSAI maseh belum selesai. Orang kata, takdir dan rezki terletak di tangan Allah. Suka atau pun tidak, ruang untuk kita menunggu tetap terbuka luas.
Terutama sekali satelah Pak Lah dengan rasmi nya menyerahkan kuasa pada Dato Najib nanti. Selepas itu, apa-apa pun boleh terjadi. Tidak samesti nya, berpunca dari DSAI . 'It could be coming from a magic hand at work'.

EPILOG
Secara peribadi, saya tidak lah terpengaruh atau fanatik sangat terhadap janji-janji DSAI. Dalam soal ini, saya mempunyai pendirian dan pandangan sendiri ‘ what is best for my country, the land beneath the wind’.

Semesti nya ada perbezaan dengan deklarasi yang pernah di persetujui oleh DSAI dengan PKR Sabah.
‘To me, the interest of the people of sabah and the security of the nation must come first’. Secara peribadi, saya tidak banyak masaalah dengan kerajaan sekarang atau pun ‘The Shadow Government of DSAI’.

Yang penting, ia lah pemimpin-pemimpin yang sedia ada, perlu di ‘Overhaul, Restructured or even Replaced’.

The Government will be reviewing several major projects due to uncertainty in the global economic environment, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said.
As for projects on which work have yet to start, it might even consider postponing the projects. But it will all be within reason and involve particularly projects that are large and require high cost, the Prime Minister said.
Projects that are viable would continue. All the projects in the country involve the economic corridors, he said.
"Where we can implement, we will. Where we need to pull-back a bit, we will pull-back. We will postpone."
He also said that the country had continued to receive investments from specific areas due to its vision for targeted investment and from areas with sufficient or excess funds for investment.
Malaysia offers high incentives for investment. For investors keen on the targeted investment, the country can either receive the investment flow or export its products to the involved countries.
Abdullah also reiterated that Malaysia's economy would be able to withstand pressures from the downtrend in the global economy.
"Our economy has resilience. Our ringgit is stable and our reserves strong, and up to this point, our exports can be maintained and we also have a favourable trade balance," he said.
"The important thing is the Government has not forgotten to come up with the measures to be taken so that whatever the effects that befall us, we hope it will not be continuous."
He added that while Malaysia in the past depended on the US market, it has now diversified into other areas such as Asean and China. This, will hopefully help shield the country, he said.
Abdullah said he also hoped that Malaysians would be ready to invest and spend as domestic consumption would drive the country's economy.
However, there is a need to convince the people of the measures that the Government has taken besides being just told that the country's economy has staying power due to strong fundamentals.

WHAT IS NEEDED TO BE DONE MUST BE DONE ( English Version)

If the reasons for shelving some of the projects is the global economic environment uncertainty, then by all means do it. Hoping it is not amounting to a major blundering national catastrophe . Like tsunami or hurricane Katrina or something.
I guess some thinkers or economists would readily like to rebuff the statements made by our PM. Possibly with some smart ideas . However as it is , the result would be the same. It could be a blessing in disguise to some, who knows.
On the same token, I would like to take the opportunity to propose to government to seriously consider reviewing the status of Sabah Development Corridors. As it is, the present SDC initiated by our CM, Datuk Seri Musa Aman (DSMA), does not seems to meet the vision dreamed by the people of Sabah. The proposed Development areas identified by DSMA earlier, would only benefited to some.

According to DSMA “ The SDC covers the western, central and eastern region of Sabah. SDC's key economic drivers are services (tourism and logistics), agriculture and manufacturing. A key target of the SDC is to make Sabah one of the most likeable places in Asia by 2025, given the state's diverse cultural offerings, heritage, quality of life and a clean environment. SDC will also help to position Sabah as a major trade and logistics regional hub of this region.

In real sense, the SDC mentioned aloud by DSMA sometimes ago, is only a rhetoric. Sadly to some, reflecting a political planning's failure. A make believed story tale , orchestrated by him and geng to cloud the eyes of this planet, that Sabah is now better off under his governance. Actually, to me, it is not.
In fact, it is like a one way journey through a tunnel along a long and winding roads.

THE CASE OF MYCARD AND ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS (PTI) IN SABAH (English Version)

Dompok who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said that the government has decided on a course of action that could flush out all foreign nationals without valid documents if it was implemented sincerely.
He said that foreigners who could stay on in Sabah should only be those allowed to work after obtaining work passes issued by the Immigration Department. Dompok also voiced concern about another category of foreigners who should not be in Sabah but somehow managed to secure valid documents.
“They are the ones who by the stroke of the pen, accorded citizenship and may even join the ranks of natives of this country. This is a more serious problem,” he said.
On the same token Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Joseph Pairin Kitingan hoped there will be no more cases of a citizen being demoted to a Permanent Resident now that a Sabahan is heading the State National Registration Department (NRD).
Welcoming the appointment of Abdul Jaffaer Henry as the new State NRD Director, he said the department should now be able to perform its roles and responsibilities properly and according to public expectations.

EVERYONE CONCERNED, EXCEPT UMNO?
With the exception of UMNO, most of the parties had contributed more or less their grievances pertaining to the issues of MyKad and PTI.
Since the formation of PKR in Sabah sometimes ago, Datuk Dr Jeffry Kitingan had been saying aloud about the issue of PTI and the needs to have more Sabahan senior officers in the federal departments. But so far no body seem to bother.
However, beside MyKad and PTI the problem of poverty and unemployments are also equally important to the people of Sabah.

Nampak nya hampir-hampir semua parti dan NGO di Sabah sibuk memainkan peranan masing-masing dalam usaha untuk menangani masaalah MyKad dan PTI. Kecuali Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak, UMNO Sabah maseh lagi senyap.
Sehingga kini, sudah banyak suara-suara sumbang rakyat Sabah yang merasakan bahawa UMNO tidak perihatin terhadap kesusahan rakyat disini.
Sedangkan pada suatu ketika, mereka telah menjanjikan akan mengubah nasib rakyat Sabah melalui program ‘ Sabah Baru’.

No doubt , both Tan Sri Bernard and Datuk Dr Jeffry came from the same ethnic group, the KDM. Yet, they adapt different kind of political philosophy. However, in the case of problematic NRD, both of them share the same concern. Briefly, let see what they have to say about it.

NRD According to Tan Sri Bernard Dompok
According to (UPKO) President Tan Sri Bernard Dompok, there is a need to revamp the National Registration Department (NRD) administrative system to better handle cases of locals unable to attain citizenship in Sabah.
"However, if it is only an administrative problem, then there is no need for me to raise it to the Federal Cabinet" , he said.
He was commenting on two new cases of locals who had their applications for citizenship meeting dead ends despite trying for more than three decades (see separate story) as well as Yong Lee Hua who lost her citizenship after getting a replacement for her stolen IC.
"There's something wrong in the system. These are some of many cases of people who are still struggling to get their citizenship and the saddest part is that there are other people who walked into the country easily obtaining their citizenship through the backdoor.
In fact, we have been calling for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (among others, to solve such problems)," he said, adding that some of the perennial issues were about to be uncovered when he chaired the Parliamentary Select Committee on Integrity. " he concluded.

NRD According to Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan
On the other hands, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice president Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan felt that such revamp alone as mentioned earlier by Tan Sri Bernard Dompok, will not solve the problems of issuing identity cards (ICs) to non-citizens while denying locals of their citizenship rights.
He said, “No amount of administrative revamp can solve the IC and citizenship problems in Sabah without a strong political will or a change of government.”
he reckoned, the need for a whole new attitude by the federal government and the federal civil servants towards Sabah that was to respect Sabah’s rights and roles in the federation.
He also said the NRD staff had to understand what these rights were and to assist Sabahans to obtain their citizenship rights, including ICs without hassles and to protect Sabahans’ rights and sovereignty by rejecting any application by non-Malaysians for IC.
He believed that any manipulation or political abuse of citizenship rights and issuance of ICs to non-citizens should be exposed so that appropriate action could be taken against the perpetrators.
According to him, ‘do not care’ and ‘neo-colonial’ attitudes of the federal government over the last 45 years towards Sabah as well as their continuous denials and pretence that Project IC did not exist and given that the same Umno-controlled BN government was in power, he said only with a strong political will or a change of government could resolve these problems once and for all.

Author Comments and Conclusion
If we are Patriotic Sabahan as what we always claimed, then we should give our due appreciation to both leaders for contributing their opinions on how to handle the complex IC's problems faced by Malaysian citizen, living in Sabah. Rather than complaining, who is right and who is wrong, for once, let be serious. Malaysian Identity Card(IC) is our legacy. It is our recognition's ultimatum in the face of this trouble Earth.
Pertaining to this isu, it is easy to say than done and it involves a lot of bureaucratic works . Among others;

1) System updating for both statistic and logistic facilities.
2) Smart strategy and tactic in getting informations.
3) Good integral relationship with neighbouring countries and etc
4) Aggressive participation of relevant NGOs’
5) Enough funding

EPILOGUE
So far, our mind set had been prejudicially focusing so much on the faulty made by those from Philippine and Indonesia. Some how and as a result of further investigation, new informations had surfaced. Showing that there could be a possibility of breach in citizen ownership by those coming from Mainland China, Taiwan or from our own neighbuors; Sarawak and Semenanjung.

Just for a while, think about it.
