NEW DELHI, India - Inmates lodged in Tihar are soon likely to strike some different notes in their lives as they are due to get their own version of “Indian Idol” with a singing talent hunt set to be soon organised in the jails.Confined within the high walls of Tihar Jail, inmates of the largest prison complex in South Asia will soon have a chance to sing or compose music in an album with ‘Tihar Idol', a talent hunt organised within the jail premises for the inmates.
"Tihar Idol is a talent hunt where inmates will be selected for various genres like singing, lyrics and music from all the nine jails of Tihar prison. After selection, they will be trained and groomed to sing in an album. The audition will kick start within a week," Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) R.N. Sharma said.
Tihar Prisons spokesperson Sunil Gupta, said, “Our inmates are a talented lot and this we are doing as part of the reformation programme. Their talent must get an opportunity.It will in a way help in stopping them from being repeat offenders.” Auditions are to begin within a week by the RVP Directors, a production house.
