JAPANESE 'BLACK WIDOW' SERIAL KILLER SENTENCED TO DEATH

TOKYO, Japan - Accused serial killer Kanae Kijima,37, has been found guilty on three counts of murder and sentenced to her death in Tokyo, Japan.
Kijima is known as the ‘Black Widow’ – the female spider that eats its partner after mating, for killing three men aged 41, 53 and 80 whom she met through Internet dating sites, after dating them for their money.
  • She was notorious for meeting multiple men through matchmaking sites and quickly engaged in relationships not long before they died under suspicious circumstances.
  • All three victims died due to carbon-monoxide poisoning, two of them were believed to have been drugged with sleep-inducing drugs before-hand.
  • Kijima lived a luxurious lifestyle, after receiving money from these men through deception and then quickly ended the relationships with murder.
  • According to media reports, she committed the crimes “in order to maintain her luxurious life full of vainglory without working”, the judge said.
Her defense countered the argument saying that their deaths were due to suicide provoked by her threats to leave the men or accidental in nature, such as the one case where the victim’s house burned down.
More than 1,300 people queued up for the 49 seats available to the public for the hearing, in which she was also convicted of seven other lesser crimes, including fraud and theft. Her legal team said she planned to appeal.
