68% FILIPINOS WON'T CHANGE RELIGION FOR LOVE

MANILA, Philippines - Sixty-eight per cent or roughly seven out of ten adult Filipinos will not change their religion to be with someone they love, a nationwide poll said.
A poll conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) between December 3 to 7 last year but whose results were made public only a day ahead of February 14, also said that when it comes to love, 54 per cent of Filipinos would follow their heart while 45 per cent would follow their mind.
In getting the poll results, SWS interviewed 1,200 Filipinos in Metro Manila and the main islands of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
  • The sample respondents were posed the question: In case you and your partner are not of the same religion, will you definitely change/likely change/likely not change/definitely not change your religion in the name of love?
  • The SWS said the respondent's unwillingness to change religion was regardless whether the person was a Catholic, Protestant or a Muslim.
  • Unwillingness to change their religion in the name of love is strongest among Muslims, with 56 per cent of respondents saying they would definitely not change and 17 per cent likely not to change their religion for loved ones.
Among Roman Catholics, half of those surveyed (50 per cent) would definitely not change and 18 per cent would likely not change their religion for loved ones. Among Protestants, 51 per cent would definitely not change and 6 per cent would likely not change their religion for love.
The poll was only conducted within the Philippines. It does not cover Filipinos living abroad.
