6 DEAD 26 WOUNDED IN TERROR ATTACK ON ISRAELI BUS

ELAT, Southern Israel - At least 6 people were killed and another 26 wounded in Israel Thursday when unidentified gunmen launched a trio of coordinated attacks against civilian and military targets, Israeli military officials said. It was not immediately clear who was behind the attacks.
The violence began when gunmen in a car opened fire on a public bus as it drove south along a highway near the Israel-Egypt border, injuring nine passengers. Israel Defense Forces responded to the scene and the ensuing fire fight left three gunmen dead.
  • Shortly after, a private car was struck with an anti-tank missile, the military said. Five passengers were reportedly killed.
  • The third attack involved roadside bombs that wounded several IDF soldiers who were responding to the emergency.
While it remains unclear what group was behind the attacks, Israeli officials made it clear that they hold Egypt at least partly responsible. "It reflects Egypt's failing hold on Sinai and the rise of terror elements," said Defense Minister Ehud Barak. "This terror attack originated from Gaza. We will exhaust all measures against the terrorists."
