KINSHASA, Congo: A Congolese court has sentenced two Norwegians to death after convicting them of espionage and of murdering their driver.
The head of the military tribunal in Kisangani, Claude Disimo, says the men are guilty of killing their driver and of spying for Norway. He says the tribunal has ordered them to pay US$60 million (euro41.46 million) in damages. Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere in Oslo condemned the court's decision and denied allegations the pair was spying. He said he will protest the sentence.
Norwegian media identified the two as Tjostolv Moland and Joshua French and said they were former Norwegian soldiers.
