VIOLENCE AT MALAYSIAN INDIAN CONGRESS PARTY HQ

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: Hundreds of anti-MIC protesters are facing off with party loyalists in front of the party’s headquarters here, causing the police to close roads and call in reinforcements to break up the demonstration.
The gathering of two rival party members followed the handing over of a memorandum on the Maika issue to Maika Holdings chief executive officer S. Vel Pari by PKR leaders.
The protest is believed to have been organised by Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders galvanising opposition against the MIC over the Maika shares scandal.
The opposing groups have taken over the major Jalan Tun Razak flyover and are hurling insults at each other.
Federal Reserve Unit personnel are preparing to move in to disperse demonstrators at the MIC headquarters in Jalan Ipoh.
Roads near the MIC headquarters in Jalan Ipoh are closed to traffic as 500 PKR and MIC members converged in front of the building amidst heavy police presence.
