Iran plans to place more satellites into orbit within two years of the successful launch of its first domestically-built satellite.Head of the Iranian Aerospace Organization Reza Taqipour said that based on a ten-year program, Iran will build more satellites with specific features.
"Many projects are under design and construction in several universities and aerospace research centers that will be placed into orbit in the near future," he said.
On Tuesday, Iran placed its Omid (Hope) satellite into orbit via the Iranian-made satellite carrier Safir 2 on the 30th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.
Omid is a research satellite that has been designed for gathering information and testing equipment. Equipped with two frequency bands and eight antennae, Omid has an elliptical orbit, with a minimum of 250
kilometers and a maximum of 400.
After orbiting for one to three months, Omid will return to earth with data that will help Iranian experts send an operational satellite into space.
"The connection is regularly made between the Omid satellite and ground stations," Taqipour said.
