ISRAELI FORCES ADVANCE DEEP INTO GAZA URBAN AREAS

BREAKING NEWS

GAZA CITY - Palestinian man carries a child, wounded in the Israeli military operation, into the hospital of the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahiya. Israeli ground troops made their deepest advance into the Gaza Strip's most heavily populated area yesterday, encountering fierce resistance from Islamic Hamas fighters as residents of the war-ravaged territory braced for a sharp escalation in fighting in defiance of global calls for a cease-fire
Israeli ground forces made their deepest foray yet yesterday into Gaza’s most populated area, with tanks rolling into residential neighbourhoods and infantry fighting urban warfare in streets and buildings with Hamas militants who kept up their rocketing of southern Israel.
An Israeli army spokeswoman said residential neighbourhoods in Gaza are riddled with homemade bombs and booby traps, including mannequins placed at apartment entrances to simulate militants and rigged to explode if soldiers approach.
