ISRAEL IS NOT SEEKING PEACE

The Acting PA Chief says Israel has no intention of peace since it continues the expansion of settlements inside the Palestinian territories.
"The pursuit of colonization and expansion of settlements inside Palestinian territories shows that Israel has no desire for peace," Mahmoud Abbas said at a joint news conference in Ramallah with EU foreign policy Chief Javier Solana.
Israel has launched fresh attacks on the Gaza Strip pounding the southern parts of the densely populated sliver for a second consecutive day.
Israeli warplanes bombed the Rafah border region early on Thursday, a day after mounting at least three air raids on the region, Reuters reported.
The border strikes come after Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni raised speculation of further military operations into Gaza on Monday by saying that Tel Aviv was likely to stage further attacks against the strip to halt what she called arms smuggling into the coastal silver.
There have been no reports of casualties yet.
An Israeli military spokesman confirmed the attack, saying it had targeted a weapon production site, in retaliate to Wednesday's rocket attack.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will convene the security cabinet to discuss airstrikes on the Rafah border between Gaza and Egypt.
"The cabinet will meet in Jerusalem (al-Quds) to discuss Israel's responses to the attack in Gaza," AFP quoted an official as saying.
Mean while U.S. President Barack Obama's Middle East envoy, former U.S. Senator George Mitchell, who said in Jerusalem on Wednesday it was "of critical importance that the ceasefire be extended and consolidated" with respect to Israel and Gaza.
