PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia - Malaysia's anti-graft body will address the perception issues with facts when it plays hosts to representatives from 130 countries at the 16th International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) in Putrajaya today.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission deputy chief
commissioner (prevention) Datuk Mustafar Ali(photo) said yesterday the anti-graft body was
ready to address perception issues on corruption in Malaysia with facts.
"There will be perception. But we will tackle the issue
with facts," said Mustafar, adding that the questions would be dealt with
at the three-day conference.
He was responding to media queries on how MACC would to deal
with scandals in Malaysia, including those linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
- It was the only question he answered on the 1MDB scandal.
- There's always going to be 1,001 questions that need to be answered but today is about the conference, said Mustafar during a press conference held in Putrajaya today.
- The IACC is the biggest anti-corruption conference which will see the participation of 1,000 participants from 130 countries.
The conference was supposed to be officiated by Prime
Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak but it was announced last week that Minister in
the Prime Minister's Department Senator Datuk Paul Low would be officiating
instead.
Mustafar said so far 800 participants have already
registered and they were waiting for the remaining to register before the
conference commenced today.
