FEMALE YOUTH CLAIMED POLICEMAN THREATENED TO RAPE HER WHILE IN DETENTION IN MALAYSIA

PETALING JAYA,Malaysia -  A female youth detained over the May 1 anti-GST rally claims to have been threatened with rape and public humiliation by a police officer in order to get her to cooperate. 

Maisara Amira, who says she was threatened at the Dang Wangi police headquarters, shared her experience at the Persatuan Kesedaran Komuniti Selangor (Empower) office here on Tuesday. 

Maisara, who was remanded for four days, was allegedly threatened by the officer while being questioned on May 5, mere hours before her release. 

The perpetrator was not in uniform and did not have any identification on him. 

The following attempt at intimidation was also issued after the first threat and attempt to obtain information and cooperation from Maisara, who had remained silent at the time.

“The words he said were this: ‘You want me to rape you? In this room, only you and I are here. In this room, there is a camera and microphone. So if I sell the video, I can be rich.’ I was threatened that way,” said the 21-year-old. 
Also at the press conference on Tuesday were her father, Mohamad Asmadi Mohamad Safari, and her legal counsel from Lawyers for Liberty, Sivamalar Genapathy and Mohd Faizal Abdul Rahman. 
Her lawyers have demanded an independent probe into the matter, and said police have 48 hours to allow investigations into the rape threat to proceed at the Petaling Jaya headquarters instead of insisting it be conducted at the site of the offense. 
She was the only female detainee among 23 youths arrested over the recent May 1 rally in Kuala Lumpur.
