The impact of the downing of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) MH17 is tragic. As a result of the incident which claimed the lives of all 298 people on board, MAS will waive any change fees for passengers
intending to make amendments to their flight itineraries to any MH
destination, the carrier said Saturday.
It added that passengers who wish to postpone or cancel travel plans can obtain a refund, including for non-refundable tickets.
“Our Enrich passengers will also receive fee waivers for any changes
to their travel itinerary, as well as refunds of miles should they
choose to cancel their redemption tickets,” MAS said in a statement.
The announcement follows the tragic crash of MH17 on Thursday,
MAS said the waiver was applicable for those booked to travel between
July 18 and Dec 31 this year. Passengers would need to apply for the
waiver by July 24.
Those wishing to make changes to their travel plans may contact the
nearest MAS ticketing office, or call the airline’s global call centre
at 1-300-88-3000.
“Malaysia Airlines deeply regrets the loss of MH17, and is very much appreciative of the support from our passengers,” it added.
MH17 disappeared from radar screens in eastern Ukraine at around 1415
GMT, hours after the Boeing 777, bound for Kuala Lumpur, had taken off
from Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport.
The Boeing 777, with 283 passengers and 15 crewmembers onboard, is
believed to have been accidentally shot down 50km from the
Ukraine-Russia border.
