DEFENDING CHAMPION SPAIN SAY GOODBYE TO WORLD CUP

The unfortunate Spain crashed out of the World Cup following a dramatic 2-0 defeat by Chile in Rio de Janeiro.
The 2010 champion, which was beaten 5-1 by the Netherlands in its opening game, was blown away during a frantic affair at the Maracana.
Eduardo Vargas fired Chile in front on 19 minutes before Charles Aranguiz netted the winner just before the interval.
Spain becomes the third reigning champion in recent history to exit the tournament at the group stage following France in 2002 and Italy in 2006.
The result means Chile and the Netherlands are both safely through to the knockout phase.
