Authorities had reported nine deaths over the weekend. Most of the victims are in the interior of the state.
The flooding has affected the homes of half a million people to various degrees, civil defense officials said.
The protesting workers, who have declared a 24-hour partial strike,
invaded Avenida Vinte de Janeiro and managed to completely close it in
one direction before military police intervened and partially reopened
the road, said news website G1.
Meanwhile, striking airport ground staff in Rio de Janeiro blocked the
road leading to the city’s international airport Thursday, as Brazil
prepared to host the opening match of the World Cup.

TV images showed around workers in red T-shirts and carrying red
banners flooding onto the busy road and forcing drivers to stop, causing
a long traffic jam to form.
- Some passengers could be seen getting out of their vehicles and running toward the airport to catch their flights.
