KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Police are investigating
an "unfortunate" case against members of the public who caught, beat and
killed an armed man who robbed a petrol station in Jinjang on Thursday.
City police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Mohmad Salleh said police
were working on identifying the suspects who were involved in the
incident.
He said that the case was classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
- "It will be difficult as there are many suspects and we don't know who did what to the robber that led to his death.
- "We know they were trying to stop a robbery, it's a very unfortunate case. But in any criminal case, there is no right to take the law into your own hands," SDCP Mohmad said.
- In future cases, he urged members of the public to detain the suspect until police arrive.
- At around 9.40pm Thursday, an armed robber and an accomplice held up a petrol station in Jalan Jambu Jerteh and made off with some cash and cigarettes.
When police arrived, they found the robbery suspect lying motionless on the ground, with injuries to his head.
It is believed he was beaten to death with a rock.
There was no identification on the suspect at the time of the incident.
