PHILIPPINES RADIO ANCHORWOMAN KILLED IN MALABON CITY


MANILA, Philippines - Marlina "Len" Flores-Somera, 44, was on her way to the Capitol Broadcasting Centre in Monumento district, Caloocan City for her 10.30am to 12 noon Accelerate public service programme yesterday when she was shot by what reports said was a lone gunman.
Reports quoted witnesses as saying that the person who shot the anchorwoman was wearing casual clothes and was riding in a jeep.
  • Authorities are looking at the possibility that Flores-Somera's death has something to do with her work as a radio broadcast personality. Past assassinations of radio personalities had been linked to their aired reports involving public officials.
  • In line with this, reports said that Director Nicanor Bartolome of the National Capital Region Police Office has formed a special team to investigate and solve the killing of Flores-Somera.
Alongside her work as a radio anchor, Flores-Somera was president of the village homeowners' association. Bartolome said whatever, the reason for her assassination, the killing will not be tolerated and justice will be served.
