16 IRANIANS KILLED AS TOURIST BUS PLUNGED INTO RAVINE IN PHILIPPINES

Rescuers carry the body of an Iranian national after a tourist bus he was riding plummeted into a ravine in Balamban town in Cebu province, central Philippines.
Manila MANILA, Philippines - A tourist bus packed with Iranian nationals plunged into a ravine on Sunday while negotiating a mountain road in the central Philippines, killing at least 16 people, a police official said.
The bus carrying 50 Iranian passengers apparently lost its brakes then plummeted into a 30-metre ravine in Balamban town in Cebu, killing its Filipino driver and a tourist guide and several passengers, said police Senior Superintendent Erson Digal.
Villagers and police pulled at least 16 bodies from the mangled bus wreckage at the rocky bottom of the ravine. Twenty-nine people were injured and brought to hospitals.
Digal said that air force helicopters would bring the bodies to a military camp for identification.
An unspecified number of passengers were still pinned in the wreckage, he said.
Poorly maintained vehicles and roads, along with inadequate safety signs, railings, training and weak traffic law enforcement are blamed for many deadly accidents in the Philippines.
