Indonesian police are trying to identify the body of a suspected terrorist killed in a gunbattle after revealing a plot to kill the president in a suicide car bombing.
Police said forensics teams on Sunday were seeking DNA samples from known family members of regional terror mastermind Noordin Muhammad Top, who had been reported dead during a raid on Saturday.
However, widespread reports of Noordin's death attributed to anonymous sources were largely retracted Sunday.
The Jakarta Post newspaper headlined: "Was it Noordin?," while Indonesia broadcaster TV One backtracked.
National police Chief Bambang Hendarso Danuri said we "cannot yet confirm that this is Noordin Top."
