The Malaysian Government has given the green light to extend the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport runway in Ipoh, state of Perak.
- Malaysian Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said the current 1.8km length would be extended to 2km. The upgrading plans would cost about RM120mil.
- When asked when the works would start, Ong said: “It’s too premature to say anything but it’s definitely a commitment.
- Ong hoped that airline companies from Singapore would also ply to Ipoh soon.
- Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said upgrading the airport into a regional hub had been a state priority to help spur the economy.
- The Ipoh Airport would also be upgraded with a new Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex.
