SHAH ALAM, Malaysia: The Selangor Economic Action Council has blacklisted six companies involved in the collapsed Jaya Supermarket in Petaling Jaya.
They are Jaya Section Fourteen Sdn Bhd (land owner and developer), DP Architects Sdn Bhd (that submitted the building plan), Meinhardht (M) Sdn Bhd (engineering company), Pembinaan CW Yap Sdn Bhd (contractor), Jurutera Perunding Sdn Bhd (engineering contractor) and DLS Management (project manager).
The decision was made by the council at a meeting chaired by Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim(photo) here Friday after it was briefed on the incident by the Petaling Jaya Municipal Council and the Public Works Institute of Malaysia Ikram (Ikram).
Seven workers were killed when the building earmarked for redevelopment collapsed during demolition works on May 28.
"The decision was made as the MBPJ had yet to receive any report or explanation from the owner or consultants of the redevelopment project as required for the issuance of the certificate of completion and compliance.
"The MBPJ had also not received any application from the firms for the demolition of the remaining structure," said Selangor Menteri Besar's press secretariat in a statement Friday.
It said Ikram had notified the state government that the 19-metre high wall of the building posed a danger to residents in the vicinity.
The statement said the meeting had also extended the stop work order that ended Friday to enable Ikram to carry out further investigations at the site.
The state government has also asked Ikram to prepare a guideline on demolition operations to be adopted by the local councils, it added.
