Israel's ultra-nationalist Foreign Minister is leaving Israel for Europe after the EU linked ties with Israel to commitment to a two-state solution.
The European Union threatened to suspend upgrading relations with Tel Aviv if it refused to restart peace talks with the Palestinians. It also called on the Israeli government to stop expansion of Jewish settlements in the West Bank.
The trip comes days after Israel took a swipe at the EU over the issue.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said T that Tel Aviv does not tolerate the 27-nation bloc to dictate its policy to Tel Aviv, according to Haaretz.
Lieberman's five-day tour will take him to Rome, Paris, Prague and Berlin.
"He will ask that the Europeans wait a bit until the government presents its new policy," foreign ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor told AFP.
Israel's hawkish Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who refuses to accept international community's call for creating a Palestinian state has repeatedly vowed to expand illegal Jewish settlements in the occupied territory.
Israel's settlement activities are described as one of the main obstacles in the way of peace process.
"If Israelis can't build homes in the West Bank then Palestinians shouldn't be allowed to either," he said.
International bodies including the UN Security Council, the European Union, and the International Court of Justice consider Israel's settlement activities illegal.

Israel is populated in great part by people who had suffered enormously in the hands of fascists during WW2 and also peopled coming from many places by those who felt persecuted unjustly.
ReplyDeleteQuestion is why do they now want to inflict the same pain on a another group of people whose only "sin" is to desire a nation of their own.
Very difficult to understand this sort of behaviour.
Manila Baywatch,
ReplyDeleteI wish I have the answer to your question.
From what we knew, The Jews are historically complicated people. Not many people know exactly what they gone through. Except, it is believed that they were originally coming from the land somewhere around Jerusalem.
It is believed that they had been wondering all over the western world until the British help them to establish their own homeland , The Israel.
As you mentioned, they suffered enormously at the hands of fascists (Nazi) during WW2. However, now a days it hard to say whether they took revenge on the other group ( Palestine) or simply an act of defensive , we don’t really know.
One thing we are sure of, they are surrounded by the unfriendly neighboring Arabs.
By all means, thanks for visiting and commenting.
