KUALA LUMPUR: The Government has appointed former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi(photo) as the National Corridor Development adviser.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who announced the appointment, said Abdullah’s initiative on the regional corridor development projects would bridge the gap between the urban and rural communities in the country.
“The corridor concept is based on the realisation that development can be carried out in a well-planned manner if all the potential of the different states is combined,” Najib said at a farewell dinner for Abdullah at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here last night.
Najib said the initiatives by Abdullah would revive the socio-economic development of the country and strengthen racial harmony among the rakyat.
“Abdullah has injected the spirit of self-confidence into Malaysians to bring the country to greater heights and to ensure that the spirit lives on; he has emphasised on the development of human capital,” he said.
Abdullah had also put in motion the National Integrity Plan to produce a first-class mentality among the people.
Meanwhile, Abdullah expressed confidence in Najib’s capability, vitality and dynamism in leading the country. “I will support Datuk Seri Najib in whatever way,” he said.
