Sivakumar refused to talk to reporters and attempts to get near to him were hampered by his "bodyguards"
IPOH,MALAYSIA - A four-paragraph statement issued at 6.30pm Perak state assembly Speaker V. Sivakumar ordered Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir to be suspended from the assembly for 18 months and his exco members for 12 months, with immediate effect.
The six exco members are Datuk Ramly Zahari, Datuk Saarani Mohamad, Hamidah Osman, Zainol Fadzi Paharuddin, Dr Mah Hang Soon and Mohd Zahir Abdul Khalid.
Sivakumar said Zambry and his six exco members had failed to provide any explanation to the Committee of Privileges on the charge of having committed contempt of the state legislative assembly when they declared themselves as the menteri besar and state excos.
The seven were asked to appear before the committee following a written complaint from DAP's Canning state assemblyman Wong Kah Woh, who alleged that Zambry and his six exco members had acted against the state assembly and the Perak Constitution.
Sivakumar refused to talk to reporters and attempts to get near to him were hampered by his "bodyguards". The six members of the committee (elected representatives of Pakatan Rakyat) also refused to speak to reporters.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi regards Perak state assembly Speaker V. Sivakumar's barring of Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir and his state executive councilors from the assembly as opposing the decision of Sultan Azlan Shah.
The Prime Minister said, however, that the Perak state government would continue to function and administer the state as required by the people and as the legitimate government.
"The Speaker cannot bar them. The menteri besar and the state executive councillors have already been appointed by the Sultan and were already sworn in before the Sultan. They were legally appointed.
