Malaysian PM Ready To Face Critics
KUCHING,Sarawak, Malaysia - Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak wants critics to know that he is "fighting fit" and ready to take them on.
Opening the Gathering of Rising Entrepreneurs Act Together (GREAT) 2016 here Sunday, the Prime Minister said he had a selection of two T-shirt sizes for the event - XL and XXL. - "I'm proud to say that I chose XL and I can wear it. "The message is clear: I'm fighting fit and I will take on anyone," he said.
The Prime Minister did not elaborate.
Najib has been facing attacks over 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), criticisms from former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, rising prices and the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
On the cost of living, Najib said alleviating higher prices was only one aspect of the matter.
"Another aspect is how to increase the income of the people. We need to do this at the same time as taking steps to reduce prices," he said. Najib also announced the setting up of Borneo 744 at Bintawa in Sarawak as a hub of creativity and innovation for young entrepreneurs.
"This will be a Blue Ocean Entrepreneurs' Town to encourage collaboration and networking among entrepreneurs. "We want to make this a model of creative entrepreneurship," he added.

PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia - A government must not be afraid to make unpopular
decisions if it benefits the country in the long run, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun
Razak.The Prime Minister gave his assurance that while policies like the Goods and Services Tax (GST) may not be popular, the decision to implement the tax system will benefit Malaysia.
- “We must be confident that the policies we introduce will bear fruit. Do not be afraid to make decisions that are unpopular. It may not show its results in the short term, but it will in the long run,” Najib told staff at his department’s monthly assembly here on Monday.
- “We all know we must find ways to increase the country’s income, that’s why we introduced the GST, even though it is not popular.
- “We must improve on the implementation, take action against those who irresponsibly increase prices and also constantly give explanations.
- “To be a competitive country, we must reduce corporate and individual tax. Thailand has reduced theirs to 20%. Singapore reduced theirs to 17%. So far, we have reduced our individual tax.
- “When our income has increased, we will be able to use it to reduce the people's burdens,” he added.
- Najib also urged his staffe to work together “as a family”.
- “I assure you that when our economy improves and the market becomes more confident of us, we will move forward.
- “We will be able to achieve our aspirations, but only with the condition that we work as a family. We are all in one team,” he said.

(PKR) vice president Mohd Rafizi Ramli(above photo) and an online news portal owner for
allegedly defaming them over a speech made in relation to the removal of oil
subsidies.They said that Mohd Rafizi had delivered a slanderous speech against them at a forum in Bandar Tun Razak on Nov 22 last year on issues relating to oil subsidies.
Najib, said that the
PKR secretary-general had uttered offending words in respect of his office,
while Rosmah said his words implied she had committed a criminal act.They said that the recording of the speech was uploaded by Chan Chee Kong onto Media Rakyat's website, YouTube channel, and Facebook page.
Chan is the sole proprietor of MR Multimedia, the owner of online news portal Mediarakyat.
When contacted, the couple's lead counsel Datuk Mohd
Hafarizam Harun said his clients filed the civil suit to vindicate them from
the vilification and vicious attacks of late by certain Opposition leaders."Whilst my clients accept constructive criticism in politics and issues, defamatory remarks are not acceptable. Let the court decide," said Mohd Hafarizam.

MALAYSIAN PM IS HEALTHY?
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has quashed speculation over his health, saying he did not suffer a stroke.
"Bursa Malaysia is healthy, the (stock) market is healthy, the Sukuk market is healthy and I am also healthy.
"So don't listen to the blogs," the Prime Minister said when launching the Exchange Traded Bonds and Sukuk (ETBS) here Tuesday.
Speculation over Najib's health was rife following a recent report by an online portal that alleged he had suffered a stroke.
The prime minister's press secretary, Datuk Tengku Sharifuddin Tengku Ahmad, reportedly said yesterday that Najib was fine.

MALAYSIAN PM MUM OVER FBC MEDIA ALLEGATIONS
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia—US-based broadcaster CNN denied last week it was paid to interview Datuk Seri Najib Razak during his visit to London last month, but questions remain about the role played by its anchor John Defterios after the latter’s FBC Media programme “World Business” was axed early this month by rival network CNBC.
The spotlight is on the relationship between FBC Media, the British publicity firm led by media giant Alan Friedman with Defterios still listed as its group president and broadcasters like CNBC, CNN and the BBC. As a result of the allegations, the BBC has also said it will suspend programmes produced by FBC Media and investigate the company.
- Datuk Seri Najib Razak refused today to address allegations that Putrajaya paid RM58 million to FBC Media to burnish its international image on various international broadcast channels.
When asked about British media regulator Office of Communications’ (Ofcom) probe into programmes made by FBC Media for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the prime minister refused to comment.- “No, I cannot comment on that,” he said before ending the press conference that followed an Umno Supreme Council meeting last evening.
- The Malaysian Insider understands that the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) terminated FBC Media’s contract last week, just months after another public relations firm, APCO Worldwide from the United States, met an ignominious end for alleged links to Israel.
Global broadcasters, including CNN and CNBC, have been scrambling to contain any potential fallout after allegations of impropriety surfaced following the exposé by whistleblower Sarawak Report.
Ofcom was reported to be mulling “a full investigation of the content in question under the Broadcasting Code,” according to British daily The Independent.
- In its statement carried by The Independent, the BBC said: “FBC has now admitted to the BBC that it has worked for the Malaysian government. That information was not disclosed to the BBC as we believe it should have been when the BBC contracted programming from FBC.
- “Given this, the BBC has decided to transmit no more programming from FBC while it reviews its relationship with the company,” the state-owned broadcaster added.
- The website claimed the interviews and other programmes produced by FBC Media had cost the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition millions of ringgit as part of its bid to boost its international image.
FBC Media’s dealings with the Malaysian government came to light after supplementary supply bills showed vast payments made for a “Global Strategic Communications Campaign”.
The records showed that between 2008 and 2009, RM57.7 million was paid by the Prime Minister’s Office to FBC Media for the campaign.

WASHINGTON: Malaysia and the United States’ relations achieved another milestone after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and President Barack Obama met for their first-ever bilateral talks, on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit here Monday.During the 40-minute encounter, the two leaders spoke of economic cooperation and Obama surprised with his knowledge of Malaysia’s New Economic Model (NEM) and its goal of transforming Malaysia into a high-income economy that was unveiled by Najib less than two weeks ago.

- President Obama complimented the Prime Minister for a sure-footed economic model and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton mentioned the possibility of future opportunities for US companies in Malaysia.
- Najib also gave his undertaking that Malaysia would participate actively in the Trans-Pacific Partnership initiated by the Obama administration to push for economic integration in the Asia-Pacific which accounts for 40 per cent of world trade.
- Moving on to international issues, Obama sought Malaysia’s assistance in the rebuilding of Afghanistan. They also touched on the concern among international community over Iran’s nuclear build-up.
- Obama lauded Malaysia’s recent passing of the Strategic Trade Bill to thwart illegal transactions of arms to prevent weapons proliferation. Najib reiterated that Malaysia would remain a strong opposer of weapons proliferation.
- He also briefed Obama on Malaysia’s success in containing the Jemaah Islamiah militant organisation linked to the al-Qaeda, the latest development in Asean which held its annual summit last week and the situation in southern Philippines and Thailand.
