Philippines’ Duterte Announces ‘Separation’ From US?
Philippines’ President Rodrigo Duterte declared his “separation” from longstanding ally the United States in Beijing on Thursday, as he rebalances his country’s diplomacy towards China.
“I announce my separation from the United States,” he said to applause at a meeting in the Chinese capital.
His comments came after he met his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People on Tiananmen Square, with the two men pledging to enhance trust and friendship, while playing down a maritime dispute.
The two leaders — Duterte donning a suit and tie for the occasion — strode side-by-side down the red carpet inspecting an honour guard, with children cheering.

- Duterte is in China for a four-day trip seen as confirming his tilt away from Washington and towards Beijing’s sphere of influence — and its deep pockets. Duterte called the meeting “historic”, it added.
Duterte’s visit to Beijing capped a series of recent declarations blasting the US and President Barack Obama.

US Warns China On Militarisation Of South China Sea
SAN FRANCISCO: U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter on Tuesday warned
China against "aggressive" actions in the South China Sea region,
including the placement of surface-to-air missiles on a disputed island.
"China
must not pursue militarization in the South China Sea," Carter said in a
wide-ranging speech at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco.
"Specific actions will have specific consequences."
Asked what the
consequences could be, Carter told reporters the U.S. military was
already increasing deployments to the Asia-Pacific region and would
spend US$425 million 
through 2020 to pay for more exercises and training
with countries in the region that were unnerved by China's actions.

He said China's behaviour had fuelled trilateral agreements that would have been "unthinkable" even a few years ago.
- The United States has carried out several freedom of navigation exercises in the South China Sea recent months, sailing near disputed islands to underscore its rights to navigate the seas. U.S. Navy officials say they plan to conduct more and increasingly complex exercises in the future.
- Carter said the Pentagon also planned to spend over US$8 billion in fiscal 2017 alone to expand its fleet of powerful submarines and undersea drones.
- "There is no question that there are consequences for these actions," Carter said. "We have plans in all three of these categories. You'll see them unfolding."

BUS FILLED WITH LIVE SNAKES TERRIFIED PASSANGERS
BEIJING, China - Police in China are investigating after 15
boxes filled with live snakes were found on a bus, state media reported today.
The snakes were packed alongside containers holding toads
and rats in the luggage compartment of a

A FARM REARED 50,000 SNAKES, 30,000 COBRA IN CHINA?
A pair of brothers;
Yang Xunyi and Yang Xunlun in China manage a farm of 50,000 snakes on a daily
basis.The pair run a 3.3 acre snake farm, which includes 30,000
cobras in Chongqing, a major city in south-west China.
Xunyi, 40, and his younger brother Mr Xunlun have been in
charge of the farm for six years. And it is certainly not for the faint-hearted.
Xunyi, 40, said: 'I have been bitten numerous times, which
all happened when I fed them. When you are bitten, you have to squeeze out the
poison immediately and wash the wound with a large amount of water.'
He said he treated the wound with his home-made balm and
medicines instead of visiting hospital.
The farm has 20 workers, all of whom have to go through an
intensive three-month training programme before they are allowed to work on the
site.

MEN CATCHES FALLING BABY FROM BUILDING IN CHINA
BEIJING - Dramatic images of two Chinese men catching a young child after he fell from a second storey window were released on Friday by Chinese state media.
A man walking past a building during a thunderstorm in the southern province of Guangdong spotted a baby who had climbed dangerously onto the window sill, provincial broadcaster Guangdong TV said.
In the video footage he was joined by another bystander, and both threw up their arms in anticipation of the child’s fall.
Finally the infant tumbled down into the pair’s arms.

DEADLY BLAST HITS CHINA'S XINJIANG REGION
At least 31 people have been killed and more than 90 injured after
two vehicles ploughed into a market and explosives were thrown in
China's restive Xinjiang region, the official Xinhua news agency
reported.
Two off-road vehicles drove into a crowd in the
regional capital Urumqi on Thursday, with one of them exploding, Xinhua
said, in what state-run media called the latest "serious terrorist
incident" to hit Xinjiang, home to mostly Muslim Uighurs.
The owner of a small business told Xinhua he had heard a dozen big bangs, the AFP news agency reported.
Pictures posted on Weibo, a Chinese equivalent of Twitter, purported to show victims lying in a tree-lined street.
Flames rose in the background, while other images showed smoke billowing over market stalls behind a police roadblock.

HUNDREDS OF CHINESE BABIES SAVE FROM ONLINE TRADING RACKET
BEIJING - China has smashed four child-trafficking rings and arrested more than a thousand people for using websites and instant messaging groups to trade babies, Chinese authorities said Friday.
On February 19, police from 27 provinces across China rescued 382 babies and arrested 1,094 people suspected of buying and selling infants online, China's Ministry of Public Security said in a statement on its website.
The sting was part of a six-month operation launched after police in Beijing and Jiangsu in eastern China received reports of a website promoting private adoptions.
Further investigations
uncovered a virtual black market -- involving four websites, online
forums and some 30 groups on a popular Chinese messaging platform --
that connected traffickers with potential buyers.The ministry said some of the people arrested confessed to using the sites.
According to local media reports, 27 suspects were arrested in the country's southern Sichuan province, where 13 babies were also rescued. Another 43 suspects were arrested and 11 babies rescued in Anhui province, in eastern China.
A woman arrested by police in Leshan, Sichuan admitted to buying two baby girls from Wuhan and Chengdu, in August 2013 and January 2014, respectively, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported.
Another couple in their 30s told CCTV they used a Chinese website to buy a baby from an expectant teenage couple in Chengdu. They paid 20,000 yuan (US$3,250) for the child.

14 KILLED IN CHINA MOSQUE STAMPADE
BEIJING, China - Fourteen people, some of them children, were killed and 10 injured in a stampede during a gathering at a mosque in China’s Ningxia region, state media reported on Monday.
The stampede occurred at lunchtime on Sunday while traditional food was being handed out to people attending an event to commemorate a late religious leader, the official Xinhua News Agency said, citing the local government.
The injured were hospitalised, with four in critical condition, the brief report said.
One photo posted online by Chinese news outlets showed six bodies laid out side-by-side inside a building, with several children in colourful outfits among the dead.
