Malaysian Muhyiddin Wants RoS To Verify His Suspension From UMNO?
Former deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has asked for a confirmation from the Registrar of Societies (RoS) on whether his suspension as Umno deputy president is valid.
Speaking at a meet and greet session at Kampung Biah in Kadok today, he said he has escalated his query to RoS to verify the authenticity of his suspension.
"My suspension was not in accordance with the Umno constitution and I have sent a letter to the RoS seeking an explanation as to whether my suspension was valid and in accordance with the party’s constitution," he said. Source: New Straits Times
Malaysia's Mahathir Quits Ruling Party, UMNO?
Former Malaysian premier Mahathir Mohamad announced Monday he was
quitting the ruling party, saying it had degenerated into an
organisation whose sole purpose was to protect scandal-plagued Prime
Minister Najib Razak.
However, according to Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Salleh Said Keruak, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has made the right move by resigning from Umno.
He
described it as the best option that Dr Mahathir could take “since his
relationship with Umno or its leader is no longer tenable.”
- In his latest post on his blog today, he said: “Dr Mahathir’s actions are hurting the party and for him to remain in the party while at the same time going against the party does not seem logical.
- “If Dr Mahathir wants to continue to attack Umno then he should do so outside of Umno. That would be the noble and ethical thing to do.”
- He noted that this was the third time Dr Mahathir had left Umno.
- The first time was when he was sacked by then party president Tunku Abdul Rahman. He quit Umno in 2008 when Tun Abdullah Badawi was at the helm.
- Mohd Salleh said he was saddened by this episode not so much because Dr Mahathir has yet again left Umno but because of the circumstances of his resignation.

one can deny that Dr Mahathir did a lot for the country in his 22 years
as Prime Minister “although his term of office was not entirely free of
blemish.”

CYBER THREAT ON MALAYSIAN UMNO
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Umno must take on its adversaries on
cyberspace that has become the new political battleground, says Datuk Seri
Najib Tun Razak.
The party president said members should acquire the ability
to fight their opponents in cyberspace, be it to win the hearts and minds of
the people or negative perceptions.
He said Umno’s survival depended on what was being said on
social media, describing it as “more dangerous than street demonstrations”.
“It is not easy to threaten Umno’s influence through street
demos but the party can easily be poisoned through social media. This is a new
threat to our party and we need to tackle this,” Najib said.
“I want Umno members to be active on social media. They
should have Facebook and Twitter accounts and go after those who attack the
party.
“With three million members, we can defend the party and
fight our enemies out there,” he said at the opening of the Bandar Tun Razak
Umno meeting.
Najib said he was being constantly attacked by Umno’s
enemies to weaken the party. “They are attacking me not because I’m Najib but because I’m Umno president. Our enemies want the party to be weak and fall and I’m their target. I wasn’t attacked like this when I was the deputy president. They are looking for my faults. If there’s none, they will create and spread vicious allegations and slander", Najib said.

INSULTING UMNO DOESN'T MEANS INSULTING MALAY?
Insulting Umno does not mean insulting the Malays, PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim(pic) said today."While we appreciate the struggle of previous Umno leaders, it does not mean we acknowledge the current leaders who are robbing the rakyat," Anwar said.
"What is this nonsense that insulting Umno means insulting Malays? Umno is Umno. The Malays are Malays. They are separate.
"Brothers, who apparently rob the Malays, are idolised as defenders of the Malays."
He said Umno leaders who defended the actions of Umno Youth members who
barged into the Penang legislative assembly were irrational."If a DAP lawmaker is accused of insulting Umno and justifies the action of barging into the Penang assembly, then we would have stormed Parliament on numerous occasions.
"After all, Pakatan Rakyat has been insulted on numerous occasions in the Dewan Rakyat," Anwar said.
The controversy began last week when DAP Penang's Seri Delima state
assemblyman R.S.N. Rayer uttered “Umno celaka” (Umno be damned) in a
sitting.Following Rayer's remarks, a group of people claiming to represent Umno Youth barged into the Penang state assembly in search of Rayer.
Twelve people were arrested although they were later released on police bail.
The following day, another group of Umno Youth members demonstrated in front of the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - About 1,500 investors of gold trading firm Genneva Malaysia Sdn Bhd today registered complaints at the Umno Youth Complaints Bureau office over the raid by Bank Negara on the company on Oct 1.

assets that belonged to these customers.
- Muhammad Khairun Aseh, the head of the bureau and Umno Youth executive council member, said that he would be writing an official letter to BNM seeking a guarantee that the millions worth of assets of all the buyers will be returned.
He said that Umno has got itself involved because it received close to 10,000 complaints from buyers seeking its help.
“Many have expressed to us their stressful situations and we hear you. We recognise that these gold bar buyers are bona fide investors and were never an accomplice, or broke any laws,” Khairun, a lawyer, told a room packed with journalists and Genneva supporters.

MALAYSIAN'S UMNO LOSING FAITH IN BARISAN PARTNERS
KUALA LUMPUR,Malaysia — UNITED MALAY NATIONAL ORGANISATION (UMNO)’s patience and confidence with the current power-sharing agreement with its partners in National Front (Barisan Nasional) is wearing thin, judging by sentiments expressed during a closed-door retreat in Janda Baik.
- During this rare three-day gathering of Umno divisions, which ended yesterday, a common refrain heard was that Umno should be less generous in giving up Malay-majority seats to representatives of MCA, MIC, Gerakan and other component parties.
- The general view among division chiefs was that the component parties were much weaker than Umno and would not be able to swing votes from the non-Malays or the Malays.
- In contrast, a strong Umno was better placed to win in Malay-majority seats.
- The Malaysian Insider understands that party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak and senior party officials who attended the retreat — aimed at boosting the morale of grassroots leaders — were non-committal on the request for Umno to be less charitable in seat allocation with BN component parties.
- If they do agree, it would represent a major departure from the power-sharing agreement that has been the hallmark of the BN coalition, and could be the death knell of MCA, MIC, PPP and Gerakan — political parties which have been allowed to field candidates in Malay-majority seats across Peninsular Malaysia.
- Several Umno officials who attended the retreat told The Malaysian Insider that the most important consideration should be to field a candidate who can enhance the possibility of victory at the next general election.
- “If a seat has 55 or 60 per cent Malay voters, it makes sense to field an Umno candidate. In the last election, we gave seats in Perak and Selangor to other parties and they were not able to deliver.
- "These parties still have internal issues and will not be able to deliver the votes from the non-Malays. So it will be better if an Umno candidate is fielded to try and get the maximum possible support from Malay voters,” said an official, who requested anonymity due to the retreat being a closed-door affair.
- During the retreat, officials were also in agreement that Umno’s/BN’s fortunes rested on the ruling party strengthening its standing among Malay voters — a backhanded acknowledgment that it was not pinning much hopes on getting support from non-Malays at the next general election.
- This sentiment is consistent with the growing right-wing tendencies that party officials have exhibited in recent months.
- There was little substantive discussion on how the party can reach out to Chinese and Indians who Umno officials have alienated in recent months.
- Still, the mood during the retreat was one of optimism with Kelantan Umno declaring that it would be able to snare the state from PAS at the next polls. PAS has been helming the state since 1990 but Umno officials from Kelantan believe that the momentum is swinging their way.
- Also confident was Perak’s Datuk Zambry Abdul Kadir. Beneficiary of a power grab, he was certain that Umno/BN would be able to hold on to the state.
- Less hopeful about their future prospects were Umno representatives from Penang and Selangor.
UMNO PARTY PICKS NAJIB'S ALLIES
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's ruling party on Thursday selected candidates loyal to incoming prime minister Najib Razak for top leadership posts, in a coup for the new premier, who has big reform plans.Najib was appointed unopposed as president of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) earlier on Thursday, replacing Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, and is expected to be sworn in to power by the king next week.
UMNO members holding their annual meeting this week had picked Abdullah allies for other influential positions including chiefs of the women's and youth wings.
But the winning candidates for party deputy president and its three vice-presidents are all seen as close to Najib, giving him a boost as he attempts to radically overhaul the party after disastrous elections.
According to results announced at the meeting, Trade Minister Muhyiddin Yassin seized the post of UMNO deputy president, which traditionally carries with it the position of deputy prime minister.Under Malaysia's turn-taking political tradition, he is now next in line for the nation's top job as head of the UMNO-led coalition after Najib, who served as deputy premier for the past six years.
The three vice-presidents - Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Hishammuddin Hussein and Mohamad Shafie Apdal - are all cabinet ministers and Najib loyalists.

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Umno cannot afford to be seen as a party that is resistant to new ideas and new people or a party that does not welcome the young.The Umno deputy president said the party must also ensure that it ceased and desisted from the deplorable acts of eliminating and blocking talented members from making progress in the party. "Such despicable behaviour only serves to alienate those who sincerely wish to contribute to the struggle.
"If this goes on unchecked, it will spell the beginning of the end for this glorious party that has for so long served as the backbone of the people and the nation," he said at the simultaneous opening of the general assemblies of the Umn
o Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings at the Dewan Merdeka, Putra World Trade Centre, here tonight.The Deputy Prime Minister said Umno was the party responsible for increasing access to education especially at the tertiary level.
"What is important is that we should not allow the successes achieved by Umno fall into the hands of others. We must capture their imagination and convince them that our party moves in line with their aspirations," he said.
Referring to the aspect of demography, Najib said more than one-third of the Malaysian population could be categorised as youths, i.e. those who were within the 15 to 40 age group.
He said more than 70 per cent of this group were under the age of 40 and born after the May 13, 1969 tragedy. "Overall, 90 per cent of the population were born post Merdeka, whereas those born after the end of the New Economic Policy (NEP), i.e. those born in 1991 will be eligible to vote by the year 2012," he said.
Najib said these changes, coupled with advances in the information and communications technology (ICT), greater accessibility and mobility, economic progress and better education had directly resulted in the birth of a class of voters who were better informed, very demanding and highly critical.
It must be remembered, he said, that this generation might not be able to relate to the past struggles of the party because they were never there and they only learnt of past events from books and stories.
