PAKISTAN CHURCHES UNDER ATTACKS, 24 KILLED 70 INJURED

Monday, March 16, 2015
LAHORE, Pakistan -  Fourteen people were killed and more than 70 injured when two Taliban suicide bombers attacked churches in Pakistan’s Lahore on Sunday, sparking mob violence in which two other suspected militants died.
Up to 4,000 Christians later took to the streets of the eastern city, many armed with clubs as they smashed vehicles and attacked a city bus station in a rare show of anger by the beleaguered minority.
The bombings occurred during prayers at two churches located around half a kilometre apart in the city’s Youhanabad neighbourhood that is home to more than 100,000 Christians, officials said.
Doctor Mohammad Saeed Sohbin, medical superintendent of the nearby General Hospital, said: “We have received 14 dead bodies and 70 injured,” adding that the figure did not include the suspected militants who were lynched, or the bombers.
Zahid Pervez, the top health official in Lahore, confirmed the death toll and told reporters that 78 people were wounded in both attacks.
Broken window panes, blood and shoes were scattered across the blast sites.
Police spokeswoman Nabila Ghazanfar said two policemen guarding the churches were among those killed in the attacks, while two people were beaten to death by protesters who took to the streets after the blasts.

ANGRY PAKISTANI PASANGGERS THROW INFLUENTIAL 2 POLITICANS OFF PLANE?

Thursday, September 18, 2014

KARACHI, Pakistan - Fed up with constant delays and flight cancellations, disgruntled Pakistani passengers prevented a senior politician from boarding an airplane after he turned up at least two hours late for the flight.
A group of passengers shouting “Shame on you” as they blocked Rehman Malik(photo), an influential former interior minister, from entering the plane and then chasing him back to the terminal building.
  • The plane, operated by state-run Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), eventually took off from the port city of Karachi for Islamabad without Malik on board. Malik defended himself, saying he was not responsible for the delay.
Another politician, Ramesh Kumar Wakwani(photo), was also barred from boarding the aircraft after turning up late. An airline spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment
The state airline, plagued by financial losses and often criticised for its inefficiency, is known for delaying flights to accommodate the schedules of important politicians, sometimes making ordinary passengers wait for hours to take off.

LANDLORD FED FARMER TO DOGS IN PAKISTAN

Monday, December 10, 2012
PUNJAB, Paksitan Province - In Multan district of the Punjab province, a farmer was thrown to savage dogs as a form of punishment by a local landlord and his son.
Allah Bakhash, along with his son Asif, the local landlords, attacked Mohammad Hanif, a farmer and later threw him to the dogs.
Hanif was taken to a hospital in Shujabad where the required medicines were not available and his wounds turned gangrenous.
  • He was then admitted  to Nishtar Hospital in Multan, where he died.
  • The police, instead of registering a case against the landlord, filed a case of molesting and attacking a feudal lord against the victim.
  • However, the police later told the local media that they were investigating the matter and would soon lodge a case against the landlord and his son.
  • The constitution prohibits torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment but such cruel incidents have been rampant in the society.
  • Police and lower courts largely remain corrupt, inefficient and subject to pressure from wealthy, prominent and political persons.
