ANOTHER EARTHQUAKE HIT NZ CITY OF CHRISTCHURCH
WELLINGTON, New Zealand - An aftershock has rattled buildings in the earthquake ravaged city of Christchurch, New Zealand. No serious damage or injuries have been reported.The U.S. Geological Survey says the 5.5-magnitude quake struck Monday 14 miles (22 kilometers) west of Christchurch at a depth of just under 2 miles (3 kilometers).
Christchurch has been rocked by scores of aftershocks since a devastating earthquake struck the city in February, killing 181 people. The February quake was New Zealand's most expensive natural disaster, costing an estimated US$15 billion.
Monday's quake knocked items off store shelves, but officials say there have been no reports of serious damage or injuries.
